For Your March 18th Morning Show
You need to see if there's a local version of this for the morning after St. Patricks Day. http://goodivpdx.com/
Living Up To Their License
Legal has got most stations scared witless and immobile about losing their license.
- Please name a station that has lost its license. Sacramento killed a listener and they didn't lose their license. A station in South Carolina had two DJ's talking graphically about what they wanted to do to an artist, unaware they were on the air. They didn't lose their license. Do we want to do these things? No. But I think the last station to actually get popped was a United Broadcasting station in Atlanta circa 1990 where they were running a numbers game and were giving out the numbers as bible passages during the Sunday morning programming. I'm not kidding.
- And then you have 106.1 Kiss-FM in Dallas where they dropped all the autoposts the night of the tornados last month and for the next five days went into full relief mode culminating with a collection and distribution of gift cards for people who were affected by the storms, to start their recovery. THIS is the reason we're actually licensed to be on the air.
Yet Another Reason To Have A Drone
And here's another station that is there for the community, WHO-AM in Des Moines. This is one of the best recap videos every year and the drone shot at :30 and then again shortly after, really drives home the immensity of this annual event. http://whoradio.iheart.com/onair/van-and-bonnie-in-the-morning-4917/operation-christmas-meal-2015-see-the-14218818/
More Valentines Ideas
My wife still has a shoe box of cassettes that date back to her college days at St. Kates including a mixtape some dude made for her.
There is a bit. Mixtape Match-Up. Have listeners submit OLD gifts from loser guys for a best and worst competition for Valentines. Probably on the station site.
Joey Tack and Bruce Patrick at Scripps in Knoxville are a pretty amazing combo. Joey comes up with the idea, Bruce finishes it with a name.
It's traditional that some stations will take the Anti-Romance angle for Valentines, which is certainly one way to stand out. NOW in San Francisco has done The Bitter Ball. K-92 in Roanoke is doing The Bitter Mixer.
Joey's idea is to go to a salvage yard and get a car hood. And at a Valentine event, allow women to key messages to bastard ex's in it.
Only slightly more violent is the Hot89.9/Ottawa promotion that will involve axes.
