The Stuff That Sirius Can't Do(tm)
There was a cop killing a few weeks ago in Fargo and Midwest Communications played a huge roll with helping community with shock and grief. They were able to organize candlelight vigil on a few hours notice, and raised thousands of dollars for his family through the sale of shirts, which was totally sanctioned and supported by the police department.
High/Low
Q-102 in Cincinnati had a trip to the Grammys drop in their lap five days before the awards and four days before Valentines so Patti Marshall dashed out, bought enough candy hearts to satisfy the needs of a 3rd world nation on Valentines Day. They posted a photo of a jar filled with them and did a quick 24 hour cycle of High/Low to award the trip.
3D Sidewalk Art
It goes without saying that you will be at some huge summer event in 2016 with a million people and every radio station trying to get them to stop, pause in front of the speakers for several minutes, engage and post/share.
I saw a beer proposal where the company is going to send a 3D sidewalk artist to an un-named market for their million people event.
If everyone has a prizewheel and a canopy, then you want something like these.
Event Set-Ups
This is the time of year to review your sites, your social media, jock bios, event set-ups and everything else that might need updating. (And BTW: I saw a bio last week where it said "(talent) was born to be in Radio. He came out of the womb and hit the post." No one knows what "hit the post" means. Always steer clear of Radioisms that are lost on the audience.)
There are a few stations that really stand out and Z-95.3 in Vancouver is one of them. Taryn Stephenson is their "visual" person and has some suggestions:
I think the first thing you need is a hop up backdrop or step and repeat. This will ensure your logo makes it in every shot and will look very tidy. Also fans of the station LOVE to pose in front of these Red Carpet style. Maybe alternate the logo with a hashtag to encourage people to share their pics with you. http://www.signartetc.com/Hop-Up-4x3-Tension-Fabric-Display-p/hopup4x3c.htm
You could rock an LED screen depending on how much you are looking to invest and how much of a splash you are hoping to make. As a giant Radio Promotions Nerd this makes me squeal in delight.
I would also invest in a custom gobo and projector. This way your logo can be projected as large as a skyscraper ( guerilla style) or spin about on the floor of an event.
I LOVE our inflatable logo but you could also build an inflatable billboard to take to events.
