Going Viral

I'm not one of the millions who claim to be a digital expert, but with my bored-and-stuck-in-a-Ramada-in-Iowa project, hotelnightmares.com, it seems like you can't expect people to just stumble on you. So I carve out one hour every Saturday night in front of the TV and just start posting and sharing the link. And occasionally I'll check stats and see that I got 10,000 views overnight from some Israeli travel blog.

http://linkiest.com is one of those sites you should occasionally hit when you've got something particularly outstanding, like KSON diapering seals last April. Scroll down to the bottom of Saturday the 19th and note that Townsquare/Lubbock got snagged and shared.

IMDB

If you're a movie fan, you've probably been to IMDB at least a couple of times. Character descriptions are hilarious. "Man Walking On Beach". I would kill to be a man walking on a beach. The second Fugitive in Minneapolis was "animal wrangler" in some thing they shot here. Ruby Carr from Z-95.3 in Vancouver was....well...you need to see. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2181027

A guy who I worked with as a "seasonal employee" in my youth went to USC film school and has gone on to work on stuff from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to "Casino". As an apprentice he took a one day gig as a gaffer on an adult film in the late 80's. Basically he ducttaped cables to walls. But for one scene they grabbed everyone in the building and stuck them in chairs for a quick dining scene. When they asked for his name for the credits he gave them something like "Rod Handy" and yes, he is listed as "surprised restaurant customer".

This could be a one-and-out bit: find the listener with the oddest IMDB listing.

Party Starters

I think we can all agree that having a tent at a remote or event, and having no crowd or listeners there looks pretty pathetic. Ditto with huge events with music where people are just standing around.

My hotel bartender in Boston had a PT gig as a "party dance starter" for a mobile entertainment company at Bar Mitzvah's. It's like 8th grade dances. Unless you got to slow dance with Kay Comb, these were pretty uncomfortable social events. So the bartender's gig is to get the party going by dragging awkward boys out to start dancing.

There was a summer event two years ago where the Promotion Director got all the interns and assistants out from behind the booth and jamming to the music. Boom. Soon everyone was dancing.

Tutu's are great. If you're wearing a tutu, you're definitely relaxed. Y-100 was at the St. Patrick's bachnalia in Savannah and roving "Tutu dance teams" were working the event. You need a Tutu Dance Team for your big night time events this summer. When in doubt, use a sorority and spiff them we tickets to stuff.
