Blaspheme!
As a Mennonite Youth Pastor, this video offends me. Yet, I can't look away.
Plant It Forward
Remax here in the Twin Cities is a pretty amazing company. They do community service days where all of their staff goes out and will help with "chores" and other stuff. So after my father-in-law died and my mother-in-law was living alone, she somehow ended up on their list and about a dozen 30 and 40 somethings spent the day grouting, cleaning, mowing, fixing, painting....it was exceptionally cool. And they all seemed to really enjoy doing it and being away from the office with their coworkers.
This is great and pretty representative of everything that cluster does. www.949cincinnati.com/949-contest
An Actual First
From Herb Ivey at Townsquare in Portland, Maine -
A Top 100 market morning show doing TWO totally LIVE morning shows at the same time? We did it today in Portland, Maine. WHOM Morning Man AJ Dukette was sick last-minute, so instead of calling a part-timer to do it, the WBLM Morning show hosts decided to try and take on BOTH shows at the same time. Both audiences were totally aware of what was happening and played along. Thankfully no Zeppelin made it on to the AC and no Madonna on to the Rock and Roll Blimp. Hilarity, non-stop phones and much top-of-mindness ensued on both brands.
Actual Darn Social Media Engaging
First, if you think about it, Radio was the first Social Media.
One of the GM's reached out to me and was concerned that their Facebook numbers were off. He was wrong. They sucked. They had something like 52,000 followers and that week had 32 who were engaged.
So I went and looked and every single post was TMZ or programming spam. I say "spam" because it was one directional communication. "Kayne is back in the studio." "Mariah Carey had tongues wagging in Aspen." "Meghan Trainor's new single drops May 2." Nothing that would elicit or encourage a reply.
And then of course on the weekend they're totally unplugged from reality, which is why NOW in San Francisco missed a plane crash at SFO. It happened on a Sunday.
Think about stuff that people will respond to. "I saw 'Maid in Manhatten 2' this weekend. Wow was it bad. What was the worst movie you've ever seen?" "The Lightening just need to win ONE more game? I'm pulling out my lucky rabbits foot. Do you have a lucky charm?"
Elizabethany at Hot 95.5 in DC is outstanding on many levels. And almost every night, during her show, she'll lob out something really good that gets a zillion replies:
What makes you feel sexy?
What's the most embarrassing thing your mom ever did?
What's the creepiest thing you have ever witnessed. One of the people at the station carries their hair around in a Ziploc bag.
What's the weirdest food concoction you've ever made, or what's the weirdest combo that you love?
What is your guy's most baby-like behavior?
Post a completely random shot of you looking into the camera. By yourself. With a celeb. Doesn't matter.
