What The FLA?
Even people who live in Florida will acknowledge that some seriously weird criminal activity occurs in their state. I actually heard "Florida Or India" on an afternoon show; they'd name something strange and stupid and the caller had to ID where it occurred. It could actually become a blog. http://www.kvoo.com/shows/voo-crews/voo-crews-blog/meat-the-cops.
Press Universals
If you take over a gas station and pump free gas, you will get coverage.
If your female cohost shaves her head to raise money for charity, you will get coverage.
If you do any kind of diaper crawl, you will get coverage. K-Hits in Tulsa got two TV stories with Bunny Races.
If you stick a DJ or listeners on a rollercoaster for any length of time, you will get coverage. When Clifton worked in NY on the air, he rode one at Coney Island and got on all the local affiliates. Juan at KSFM lived on a ferris wheel for four days and was on every news cast north of Bakersfield and south of Oregon. Miguel at Island 106 did it and owned local news. One of the CHR's did it as a car give away and got 52 minutes of TV coverage in nine days.
And this guy set a world record.
It's the Summer. You have theme parks and fairs. Then you just need a premise.
The Cat Film Fest
Films are the entertainment universal. 99.99% of people like movies, which is why this worked so well a few years ago.
CBS in Pittsburgh, with the help of the listeners and local businesses, made their own movie. http://starpittsburgh.cbslocal.com/video/10507409-carpnado-the-movie/
In Minneapolis we're really lucky to have a ball team that is co-owned by Bill Murray. They'll do anything. And for the third year, myTalk 107.1 is sponsoring this exceptionally cool event. http://www.catfestmn.com/
