Cop On Top
Prior to all of the craziness of the past ten days, Lisa Dent with US-99.5 in Chicago did something last month to show a little love for the people in blue. She called a Dunkin Donuts, gave them her credit card and paid for all of the police who came in that day. Dunkin Donuts heard about it and created the same offer at three other locations and picked up the tabs for them. An officer called in, choked up, after leaving his wife and newborn at home to go on duty.
Orientation Week & Move-In Day
A lot of CHR's will be down at campus's trying to have some presence, hosting parties, helping students move-in and generally trying to be the first people to greet these 18 year-olds. A very wise OM suggested Geo Filtering the campus for the first week. THAT is pretty smart.
Summer Olympics Soccer
This has the potential to be kind of a funky Olympics because of pollution, crime, diseases and the skyrocketing cost of sun screen.
Generally, soccer is the sport that will get the most buzz and being in Brazil, this will be buzz on crack. And if your countries team gets deep into the rankings, there will usually be large civic events to watch them. With the World Cup, 94/9 in San Diego went out to a park where thousands of people were watching and did facepainting.
Bel Boschi, CPR Director Of Computer Stuff is from Brazil, in Brazil, and my go-to person about waxing. And soccer. She suggested for one of the clients -
Face paint and/or costume instagram contest, hashtag your station name plus get them to use your social media handle on the post as well as guess the end score (prior to shootouts if it comes to it). Entries end as game starts (so give them a precise time to end). Best costume + score guess combo wins an awesome prize. Maybe use hashflags too.
So if I send a picture on Instagram, facebook or twitter with my post I'd have : #(station) #GER 7 #ARG 1 @(station)Laugh Tracks
Have you ever listened to a bad Disney or Nick show? I had that experience the other day in a hotel while my daughters watched...Jessie...ugh...while I tried to sleep. I'd never JUST listened to TV before. They'll hit you with about three bursts in 15 seconds. It's almost on a clock.
I hate beyond belief "laugh dudes". The guy in the studio who is there just to laugh. It's painful. But I think it would be funny to do just one morning where the consultant told you you needed a laugh track. Why? Why not. It's morning radio, not rocket science. Do it, fire the consultant and move on.
Kind of like KRTR in Honolulu where they used a different 60's/70's TV show bridge music every morning for a week. The bamboo xylophones from Gilligans Island. The peppy music from Brady Bunch. Just as you transit from one topic, feature or bit to another.
