Face Your Fears Week
Now in SFO and Flow in Toronto did series of talent facing down phobias and fears as the lead in to Halloween last year. Spiders and snakes seemed to have been the common theme.
Now, I thought Meredith Teplitz from Magic in Albuquerque was pretty cool for going over the side of a building for charity.
Nah. For no apparent reason other than she ain't quite right in the heyud, Ruby Carr at Z-95.3 in Vancouver allowed herself to be covered with tarantulas by reps of some local reptile and bug society.
Ticktionary
Dave Ryan at KDWB did a contest awhile back where Steve-O had ten seconds to draw something, they'd post the pic and the first person to ID what it was intended to be, won.
One of the #1 CHR's has a Sesame Street roadshow coming through. The idea would be to have the toddler child of a staff member draw a different pic each day, and the first person to ID what it was (in the kids words), wins.
Sight Lines
Part of everything we do seems to have the end goal of getting press. Which is why you want to get banners in the end zone at football games. There are lots of places where you can be guaranteed TV coverage. During the extended election of 2000, the world press was camped outside the Capital Building in Austin, TX, so The Beat had their vehicles circling the block and getting on hundreds of live shots.
With campaigns heating up, you want to be down at the rallies with signs. Kiss in Boise has done an exceptional job of that in the past.
So when you know that an artist like Ed Sheerhan always shoots a pic of the crowd and Instagrams it, you kind of want a logo in the front row. Melissa from the Hot 95.5 knew about that and took the initiative to get a station sign down front...that went out to five million of his fans and followers.
