2017 Budgets

One of the stations is working on budgets and is factoring in money for a market visit in 1st Q. My experience is that if someone asks what you'd like for next year and your first response is "money for contesting", people up at that level don't appreciate or understand that as being the first thing you'd ask for. It's not how they're wired to think.

So:

• Think about what would make a great addition to your on-site and appearances. Think beyond the canopy. What would look great, be something different, and would be a hook that your competition doesn't have. CBS in San Diego had/has an electronic entry box for promotions. That's genuinely interesting. Photobooths are great too.
• Part-time hours. Having actual live weekends and having actual bodies out marketing you in the community are huge advantages over competitors.
• I love batlights and have seen stations do both wonderful and dastardadley things with them over the years, including hitting the Power/Phoenix "Monsters Oh Hip Hop" show at Mesa Amphitheater from the 11th floor of the Sheraton across the street. http://www.derksen.com/index.php

I've already seen quite a few profile photos changed to various artwork for one of the candidates. You COULD have Hillary, Trump, Johnson, Stein or your morning show graphics that people can post. Randomly spot check and reward people who are supporting you and their candidate.

The Best Election Contest Of 2016 (So Far)

From a station that sadly must remain nameless for a couple of weeks:

270 to Win Contest (just calling it that for now)

The biggest and most unique Presidential Election in years....

• Clinton or Trump will need 270 Electoral votes to win
• There are 538 Total.

Contestants will go to(station site) to pick 1st) the winner and 2nd) the number of electoral votes they'll get. The "voter" with 1st) the correct candidate and 2nd) closest to the number of electoral votes without going over ...wins! In the event of a tie, a random winner will be selected from all correct entries.

What do you win (beside your candidate in the White House?)?You win in dollars....the number of electoral votes your candidate received x (times) three (minimum you can win is $810 = 270x3)!

Consolation prize? Get out of the country! A consolation prize winner will be drawn randomly from all those entries who did not win and that person will receive a trip to Canada! (2 night stay in Niagara Falls, Ontario plus a $100 gasoline card).
