Drunk Movie Reviews
One of the stations has a film critic who wants to do reviews but wants something fun. Not just talking about the new Emma Watson movie
One idea we talked about was getting him drunk and having him review fairly awful movies from the 80's and 90's.
Add "drunk" to pretty much anything and you are halfway there.
Great Moments In Outdoor
We try very very hard to grow our brand by associating ourselves with artists or with testimonials from people talking about how much they love the station. The goal of marketing is to stand out, and sometimes you need to do the opposite.
This was something that Emmis did on all of their stations. It was so stupid that it was brilliant. People like film critic Rex Reed, or Tiny Tim or Slim Whitman griping about how much they hated the station. People who listeners of a CHR would not want to be grouped in with to begin with.
Morning Show Phone Juice
"Things you found in your food". My friend Karl at a Minnesota Twins game? A used bandage in his popcorn.
Mrs. Paige is trying to get us to eat healthier. So she got some name brand ground turkey at the store a couple of weeks ago, unthawed it on Monday night, made little meatballs out of it, baked it, served it and a penny...a freaking chipped up penny that had clearly gone through some kind of meat grinder, was in it.
Your Next Charity Campaign
Or at least an idea starter. When Rick Thomas was programming Wild in SFO some charity thing came along. Rick asked the person on the staff who brought it to him, "Why will people donate to this?" The guy kind of looked puzzled and said "Because we asked them to?" "Rick: "Not good enough." And it's true. If you can provide a service or product or entertainment, that will help.
I have a farm. I grow pumpkins for stress relief and mental therapy. Every Fall I will go out to the intersection of 97 and 95, set up and sell them to the tourists for beer money. And over a couple of weekends will make a couple of hundred dollars.
Bel, the Digital arm of CPR, when she was an exchange student here, was on the girls hockey team at FLHS and they needed a fundraiser. I gave them a truck full of pumpkins and they stood on the side of the road and waved at cars. All they asked for was a donation. Some people were donating $20 for a $2 pumpkin. They cleared $800 in a couple of hours.
The local DQ did their annual Free Coney Day on Monday. Come in, get a free ice cream cone and if you feel so-moved, donate to CMW. There was a line of cars out into the frontage road and people were shoving tens in the slot.
Ice cream seems to be a hot button.
