My Favorite Email Of The Year (So Far)
"What can we do this week that will really cut through and get us noticed?" - OM for a very large, very #1 station.
When Things Stick
Nothing ever happens unless you at least take a shot.
When I got to Charlotte, the biggest grad party in the country, 17,000 kids locked in a theme park overnight had an AC station as the media partner. How stupid is that? So I Rambo'ed it. They were pissed. I apologized. We were the media partner for the next 6 years.
Sometimes a promotion can turn into money. One of the CHR's did a spec contest with a savings in loan that had high school kids trying to kick field goals for college scholarships at Friday night games. Has been an annual client for the last 12 years.
And from Steph at KSON in San Diego:
Just wanted to add that one of our sales reps moved very quick and jumped on the chance with the company who placed the highest bid on my baby belly might become a client...and sure enough Used Car Megastores bought an endorsement package with me, a remote, AND this fun Baby Pool promotion:

When Daddy Met Mommy
"Write in and tell us why your mom deserves (prize from client)" has some years on it. But just like with Valentines and helping people pull off amazing surprise engagements, stories about how parents met can be funny and/or heart warming. My friend (deleted by his lawyer) met his wife at a university free clinic where she also was experiencing painful urination. They had something in common, but there is a whole different story that they told their kids. My mom? Was a hottie. My dad? Clever. She lived up the street in St. Paul and would walk past his house to get the city bus to work. So...he blocked the sidewalk with his car and started washing it when she headed down the street. She had to walk around him, he apologized, she asked about his cool new car, buh bing.
This is one of those methodologies that you could stick any client prize into for Mothers Day.
