O Negative Blood Drive

We've all done blood drives, but this one? It had a hook. From Van at WHO-AM in Des Moines:

We had listeners scouring the city for people with this, the rarest of blood types, yet universally acceptable to all others. 5 solid hours of people coming to the blood center while we broadcast, with the cab company giving complimentary rides.

Food Drives

We all do them. Which is good. Twice this past week I've heard from stations that the charity, the shelf, was overwhelmed by the size, number and weight of the donations. It's a LOT for a small agency to take on. And that they can take $1 and squeeze $7's in product out of a vendor.

So don't get locked into just collecting cans. Maybe it's "Make A Change" and collect spare change. "Pennies From Heaven" at WPXY in Rochester scored $30,000 in pennies from high schools. That kind of campaign instead of just some text-a-code thing.

Music That Mom Kills

But first, Rob & Joss at Froggy 92.9 in Santa Rosa did tributes to Military Moms: the women holding down the house while dad is away. This would be hard to screw up.

Brad Michael's with Newcap was noodling around with a "Music That Mom Hates" feature and realized it would also be fun to have moms kill songs for their kids. My wife did that to Taio Cruz song with my daughters. Kind of like this says Mike who believes that it would traumatize some kids. It would:
