CPR Promotional Check-Up for June 8, 2017
Dads
If you were a client (and why aren't you?) you would have gotten scads of Fathers Day stuff weeks . And this morning most stations are just waking up to the realization that it's a week away. I enjoyed stations who missed Mothers Day since it's such a niche thing. Harris Research indicates that only 8% of listeners have mothers.
Here is some of the stuff that my clients did last year.
The Dad Day Double Play Done by Cat Country in Albany all weekend. Two songs in order won you a load of prizes for the dad in your life.
Cha Cha's Bad Ass Dad The first of many submit-post-vote contests, this was done by Cha Cha at Jammin' in Denver.
Bad Dads One of the stations had "Bad Teacher" tickets and did "Life Lessons From Dad". Stuff like "Condom? Son, you only get to Thailand once."
Dads I'd Like To Flaunt As done by Y94 in Fargo as a submit-post-vote
Hot Dads As done by Hot in Sudbury. Same at the above but without the potential acronym.
WTF Power in Richmond did the WTF Summer. That weekend it was Who's The Father? ID the celeb dad and win tickets to see 'Lil Wayne, who's fathered a few.
Wrappin' Dads Mix 106 in Boise won for Vasectervention in '10. They were definitely in the hunt this year. From Kate McGwire: I'm taking 50 dads and their families whitewater rating on Saturday. On The Payette with Kate and Bear Valley Raft Co.
On Friday we are doing the dads day bubble races. We have 5 teams coming to our bubble race course. The teams are made up of a dad and three other family members. When we say go, the team has to wrap dad in bubble wrap and roll him through our course that has two hills, a swamp, a few fallen logs and a tree or two to avoid. First team across the finish line gets Michael Buble tx.
Fathers Day Googlizing Fly in Albany made sure that Arnold, who had just been confronted with more demon spawn, was on their masthead.
Fathers Book Q in Memphis got a great response for a simple promotion: change your profile pic to a shot of you and your dad and win tickets to take him to a ball game.
Insert "Alex Trebek" Joke From Daniel Vigil at KOB-FM in Albuquerque: We are doing fathers day jeopardy on Friday. 2 teams of dads and daughters come in to take part in a jeopardy game with the questions being aimed toward fathers and teen girl interests, they work as a team and the winning team gets $100 dad cash (visa GC they can use on whatever they want, golf, tools etc.) And daughter gets a makeover from a local salon that she uses when dad goes out golfing and then a dinner GC for both to have a nice dinner after a fun filled day.
My Dad Is A Pop Star Dads who looked like famous people at 93Q in Syracuse
Dead Beat Dads = Comedy Gold Murph with Hot 98.1 in Greenville helped a listener track down and confront the seed planter of her kid.
All Things Poppa Hot in Denver did a contest that hooked dudes up with food and car washes. B.I.G. was the cue to call.
Comb Over Here One of the stations has a client that does hair rejuvenation, which I believe translates to plugs. Or that Chinese stuff George ordered on "Seinfeld". Posting/voting for worst "Comb Over" is almost too easy.
Fashion Fails Rarely has their been a kid who was not somehow embarrassed by their dad's choice of clothing or hats or shoes and other accoutrement. I'll start: my dad wore a tennis visor that was clear green plastic and when it was sunny, it turned his face green. And when he was trying to wean himself off smoking, he used a cigarette filter that made him look like a Gestapo agent on "Hogans Heroes".
One of the stations has a client that wants to pop for a new suit for a dad. GREAT prize and it would be a shame to waste it with something that wasn't fun and visual. Again, submit-and-vote for worst Fathers Fashion Faux Pas. Too easy.
Mow Jobs 98PXY in Rochester was the first station to hit the winter road with snow jobs for listeners. On a morning with 10 inches of powder, what greater prize could there be than to have a radio station show up and plow out your driveway, leaving a campaign sign in the drift saying that that house had been the recipients of a free snow job from said-station? B96 in Chicago co-opted that name for ski trips this past January and February. And then along comes K-97 in Edmonton where they sent people out to mow listeners yards. Sponsored by a client and under the moniker of Mow Jobs.
