Facebook & Amber Alerts
If you aren't set up to post and spread info and a pic, you should be. In an emergency 11,000 or 16,000 or 22,000 extra eyes (in the random examples of KOB-FM in Albuquerque, Jammin 107.7 in New London or C 95 in Saskatoon) could be the break they need. Example from FRED-FM from this weekend:
We had law enforcement contact us on Saturday morning about a missing person with a request to get the info out, share the picture on social media and our website etc.
We received it at the same time as our competition.
Ours was on Facebook first. The competition followed anywhere from 4 to 8 hours LATER. Apparently their part time weekend people don't check the news emails? I have no clue what happened, don't care really.
Ours has been shared 2,917 times. Quite a neat trick given that since we restarted our FB just a year ago and only had 1,800 fans. We picked up 179 fans in the last 24 hours as a result of people sharing that picture. That part is a bit ghoulish ... but I like to think they clicked like because they realized that in addition to fluff, we use social medial for breaking news that affects our community and we do so at 'net speed' and not traditional media speed.
Our competition? The picture was shared 51 times and 28 times respectively.
It's A Nice Day For A Wet Wedding
Mix 108 in Boise is arguably one of the coolest Hot AC's ever. Hot AC format with CHR promotions, ie: Kidnapping Santa, Losing The 1, The Vasectervention. And:
We married a couple at the local water park a couple of years ago.
At the beginning of June we started Take the Plunge. We asked for couples who had been engaged for a long, long time and were having trouble actually pulling the trigger and getting to the altar. Then we narrowed it down to the top 5 couples. We brought them into the studio each day the week before last and each couple played the Newlywed game. Jenna and Chaz had the most points so they won. In 9 days we put together a $7K wedding. Then yesterday 5 stories high on the Avalanche ride they said I do. Matt Steele our afternoon guy was the ordained minister. I was the maid of honor and Mike was best man. After the I do's they got into the raft (wedding dress, veil and tux) and dropped 5 stories to the crowd below. Then they got a full reception for 50 people and passes to the water park all day. We got TV and newspaper out of it.
Lest We Forget
One of the mantras at Street School is that for a LOT of people, it is still a big deal to meet a DJ. We're in the Impression Business. Whoever has the most best first impressions, wins. And the airstaff by-and-large has totally forgotten that.
So I'm at a summer camp family day thing on Sunday. I was making small talk with a counselor named Ariel. She's from London. I mention that I worked with Capital FM which is one of the GCap stations in the Clifton Radio/CPR Worldwide Love Network. She literally levitates out of her seat. She'd been working at the Hilton at Heathrow and Johnny Vaughhan, the breakfast presenter at Capital, was at the hotel for some event and according to her, was the nicest funniest person she'd ever met, gush gush gush...8000 miles and 2 years later, this is still a seminal moment in her life. He probably sat and chatted with her for a couple minutes. And she will NEVER forget.
