Closest To The Pinhead
The last station to take a morning guy, stick him on a golf course and have listeners drive golf balls at him was Hot in Mankato, which was close the heals of Q in Halifax. Closest to, without hitting, wins a prize. Or just do it because you're a sadist. From DAVE-FM 9 years ago. Choppy but you get the idea.
Listener Advisory Board
One of the stations is going to start a "rate the music feature" for the audience but really really wanted to stay away from LAB. So, it's going to be themed like Game Of Thrones or Hunger Games. It will simply be The Council. An exclusive, mysterious group with infinite power. And because the PD is cool, the line "Bringest thy serving wench!" will be in a promo.
The Lessons Of Disney
Disney has trained generations of families to make it their annual destination. They run a TIGHT operation based on sending everyone home with a positive experience. In some instances it's similar to Las Vegas where hotels have paid universities millions of dollars for behavioral modification studies based on getting people to stay in their casinos just a few minutes longer.
Carpet patterns. Smells. Color schemes. Placement of slots so as to disorient you. Backs on stools as opposed no backs on stools. This is serious business that translates to millions and millions of additional dollars if they can get people to extend their time just a little bit.
When we started WiLD in Tampa, the Marketing Director drove up to Orlando and put himself through Disney training and came back stunned as how comparatively crappy we look. You don't need them in uniforms, but Taryn at Zed in Vancouver has a dress code for her people and trust me, you'll never see a 95.3 promo person in a Hanes beefy XL.
This is interesting. Take a look and see if there are any takeaways for how we can convert people when we meet them on the streets.
The "no pointing" is smart, especially when dealing with children ,and also about when you're asked a question. http://trends-addict.com/14-secret-disney-parks-employee-rules/ ad
I can totally understand the sunglasses too. http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/onboarding/fl/working-here/disney-look/overview/overall-guidelines/
Interesting about how they even have guidelines about how to pick up trash http://journalism.nyu.edu/publishing/archives/livewire/archived/the_secret_behind_the_magic_of/
