Facebook Cover Photos
An excellent question from Helen Powers at Q-99 in Roanoke: "Now that you can use a short video instead of a static photo as your station's Facebook cover image, what kind of cool things could you do with it?"
Well, for one you could go out and highlight an at-work nesting of listeners every week and give them and their biz a quick plug. And they will most definitely market this for you.Total Eclipse Of The Puck
Knoxville is right in the path of the eclipse in August and they're expecting a couple of minutes of complete darkness. Joey Tack is looking at some rave music and glow sticks for their viewing event.
If you're NOT in the path and you're going to get a sliver or a partial eclipse, you will still need to acknowledge the story. What else could you do in the dark?
You could turn out the lights in an ice rink and have listeners shoot numbered pucks at a net at the far and dark end of the ice. Get a biscuit in the basket and win.
Or you could do literal blind dating: five men find five women in the dark and when the lights go on, you've got your date for the night.
The Stuff That Sirius Can't Do
From Jeff Murray with Newcap in Red Deer:
So we had a freak windstorm hit our city a couple of days ago. Only lasted about 25 mins but we had wind speeds up to 122 kilometres per hour. Needles to say there was some significant damage. One area of town was hit harder than the rest. Power has been out since the storm and probably will be for another 24 hours.
So we thought let's throw a pizza party in one of the parks in that area to help lift their spirits.
100's of people came out, enjoyed a slice of pie.
Our cost......zero. Local pizza place donated the pizzas! The Days Of Our Lives
With the advent of social media there has been an explosion of new "dates" that more traditional calendars like Chases Almanac might miss. Like National Ex's Day last week. And thank you to Nikki Landry with Magic in Colorado Springs for having me do a phoner as one of her (I assume MANY) really bitter ex's.
I send out the monthly dates but the morning shows especially should do a weekly look at these kinds of sites to make sure that nothing sneaks past them.
