It's The Onion
If you're going to do a contest that awards $41,000 to a winner, it would be sad not to have a pay off video that revealed what the secret sound was.
Garage Doors: The Overlooked Outdoor
I've always been a fan of listener incentivized marketing, ie: winding up the audience and having them go and do stuff I'm too lazy to do.
The Fugitive is that way. "Show Us Your (Dial Position)" is another. Kiss-mas Lights where listeners spell out your moniker on holiday lights is yet another. 96X in Edmonton was the first station to incentivize listeners to tag their garage doors to win tickets. KDWB did it with passes to a private show from 5SOS and it blew the doors off. Literally.
DJ's With Things
Great talents have things that kind of become part of who they are. Not what they are, but it's just a "thing". Like Seinfeld and Superman. Mancow's thing was his car which had 300,000 miles on it and you could see the road through holes in the floor. Corey Foley? Booze. I'm not kidding. Jo Jo Wright? Feet.
And Amy Kaye at Y-94 in Fargo? She's become the coach of an all-male midget wresting team.
Stop & Win
It's becoming a Facebook staple for Magic in Colorado Springs. They offer up a prize and listeners start commenting. At a random time, they stop the contest and the last person to have commented wins. They just got 5000 comments for Gabriel Iglesias tix.
