RDS: Because It Can Be About More Than Song Titles
My favorite from Halloween '15 was Power in Miami where it scrolled things like "I'm in your back seat..."
Things That Fly
We're slowly beginning to understand that a station site can me more than just some very exciting content forwarded to us by corporate and the morning show blog.
Kiss in Boise was the first to try having a shooting gallery on their site. A client that caters to hunters had some big az giftcards to give away, so several times an hour a duck would fly across the screen. Click on it and get entered for a drawing. It's basically click-and-register but with some show biz. You still get their email address, but there's a little pizzazz behind it.
About to come back at a station with Cabelas as the advertiser.
This was also done with flying cupids at a station in Australia as a lead up to Valentines and a jewelry giveaway.
Ipad Tag
Ticket Tag has turned out to be a homerun at every station that has done it. AMP in LA decided to do it with iPads. And it was large. Q in Memphis did and Chris Taylor says it might be the most nuts he'd ever seen the phone lines. They took a caller at 7:20 and they needed to know the last winner from the previous day. They won and then announced the next contest time, usually in the late afternoon. That caller had to know the name of the 7:20 winner. And so on and so on.
Do This
One of the PD's has sat down and identified the key 14 schools that the station needs to win over. Then, using a calendar and a schedule of the prep football season, they've mapped out an attack that will get them at each and every one of them during the 2017 highschool football season...and...they've spiked in what I call "hinterland" schools. Schools that are in surveyed areas but are generally ignored by Radio because we're idiots and only think that people in highrises and subdivisions get meters.
