S.P.A.M.
With everyone doing the $1000 Free Money Text, it would be nice to find a way to brand your ratings contest so that it stands out. WPGC in DC did it as SPAM: spectacular prizes and more. And "more" could just as easily be "money". A real baller(tm) would get it sold to Hormel.
And the imaging would be great. People talking about how they enjoy spam 10 times a day and haven't put on a pound. "I never knew spam could be so great!" The tease would be promises of more spam on your social media. "Join the VIP Club and you'll get spam in your email box every day!"
Dang 'Ole AC, Man
The first station to do the "air conditioning is broken so can we come and broadcast from your house?" bit was Kiss in Salt Lake City. Wired in Philly tweaked it and made it that the station was infested with scabies. They found a listener who had a pool and the station relocated their operations for a weekend while the building was pumped full of poison. They did it so realistically that the manager at Houlihans which was on ground-level at the building, asked that no employees come in for food or drinks for at least a week.
So it was hot in Dallas a few weeks ago and 106.1 Kiss-FM decided to throw a curveball and make some noise. On a Monday the airstaff started bitching about how steamy it was in the office and that the AC was broken. More bitching on Tuesday and on Wednesday they moved to a listener's home. Catered in lunch and dinner and thanked them with Ed Shearhan tickets. And voile', the AC was fixed and they moved back to the iHeart building on Thursday.
Why? Why not?
A Matter Of Trust
Many of you have Fall and/or Holiday concerts coming up. Something that both Wild in Tampa and Power in Miami have done might be a nice hook. They put the tickets on sale at a discounted rate for the first weekend...before announcing the lineup. They sold it as, "Hey. In the past we've brought in (long list of cool names). Trust us. It'll be worth it." They sold 5000 tickets just on trust in Miami.
High School Football
Here is the cluster sked from Magic in Panama City. http://magicbroadcastingpc.com/hometown-football/
iHeart has re-done their digital goals and a large chunk of it now is app activation. So one of the guys was thinking, "What if we did a high school football app that carried re-caps from students about their games?" That would in fact work.
Christmas Concentration
It's never too early to be thinking about how you can bundle seasonal promotions requests because no one wins if you have 26 sales promotions on the air in December.
KOB-FM in Albuquerque handled it masterfully and created a holiday version of Match Game. You match two squares and won whatever client prize was under them. And it offered a nice digital element.
