Rabbit: The Other White Meat
Carlos at KOB-FM in Albuquerque was the first to spot that April Fools falls on Easter. "It's a weekend so we can't do anything!" Pshaw(tm). What do you do on weekends? You do remotes.
I've seen a couple of versions of stations doing remotes at restaurants with hot button menu items. In San Francisco it was a new place that served dishes made from seal. In Orlando it was the weekend before Christmas at The Reindeer Café. KSON in San Diego did Callahan's Feline Cuisine: meals made from cats. I have copy for their spot and a faux website that you could alter for bunnies. Ask nicely and I'll send them your way.
A Morning Show Feature That You May Not hae Heard
There is really nothing more painful than having a comedy club client push some of their talent on you for some morning show stuff. I don't know why but most of the time it's slow death.
I've seen stations flip the script on that and had the comedian use a designated time frame, like 30 seconds, to unload his A Game on each of the hosts. Kind of like this. http://www.ks95.com/crisco-dez-ryan-laugh-lose-dez-vs-ryan-01-08-18/
Fall Down, Go Boom
This will start to get more coverage as we traipse gleefully through February and March, but a 19,000 Chinese space station will reenter the atmosphere with no control from the ground. Usually these are coordinated and they stick them down in the Pacific. Probably not this time. This is the projected coverage area.
People of a certain age will remember that Skylab, about 9 times bigger, did the same thing and while most of it burned up, like this one will, some big chunks were scattered across Australia. You could host a Tiangong Gone event with drink specials. Stake the morning guy out in a field with an x painted on him. Give out some helmets. Have listeners paint your logo on their roof: if they get hit, you'll pay off their mortgage.
The Great Date
A station in San Diego has brought back old school radio with a promotion that has a to-be-revealed experience for a to-be-revealed pair of listeners. How could you do that for February 14? Have your contestants ready at some point in the middle of the day and one will get ambushed and thrown in a limo. They'll grab his/her guest and head off for the best 24 hours of VD ever. But it needs to be more than dinner and a hotel room. Zamboniing the ice at a hockey game while drinking champagne, and then going on the air to host a love songs show and then going to the planetarium and then...whatever. It unfolds while they experience it.
It could also be the Great Date Escape: they go to the airport, where they open an envelope with tickets to (wherever you can get a good rate). Don't overthink things. Vegas is great. In fact, you should check Allegiant Airlines and see what their sked is. New York. Orlando. San Diego. Chicago. Just GETTING AWAY FOR TWO NIGHTS will be prize-enough.
