The Stuff That Sirius Can't Do
Jammin' in New London found an organ match for a young man who was suffering Stage 5 renal failure. They shared his story and yesterday found out that a listener was a match. THAT is cool. https://www.facebook.com/1861287607431868/videos/2153382161555743/?hc_ref=ARTSGZF7q88W7ggXr3ZBd_EKRkSHgweuAx7URdM6ax-lyzyfpigpgAnm7B6OMhnQSFM
Social Media From Concerts & Events
Thank you to Toby Knapp with WASH in DC for putting thoughts down on how we could be doing this better--------------------------------------------------------
We are in an on-demand, "I want it now world..." and, regardless of format, the stereotypes are shattered by social media. A 65 year old grandmom on Facebook wants to see what she wants to see the same way a 14 year old does and if you aren't there, you are, in my opinion, not meeting your fan's expectations. Don't think radio. Think life. Street teams should divide duties... one member takes snapchat for the 18-34/49 formats while one takes Instagram/InstaStories/FB duties. And someone else should take Twitter... and the story should start as soon as the jock walks up to the event. Photos should be posted in real time. All the time. Updated as the event happens. If you aren't doing this, you aren't doing it right. And, if you have to submit photos and videos and wait until someone on a digital team can "vet and approve" which will eventually happen a day later or something, well, that's doing it wrong, too... and above all, it's a disservice to the fans.
Every member of a team has something to contribute. Just this weekend, I was using my access as an emcee to get really unique and up-close shots which I then airdropped to our street team so they could post to our socials. It's an all-hands effort. If some talent gives you some sort of diva-riffic attitude, remind them they're making a phat talent fee and should do something to earn it... sometimes, that means you get down and dirty with the street team to tell an awesome story.
Life happens in real time. Post and live it in real time, every event, every time. Failure to do so... means you are failing at your social game and you probably should just consider not even playing the game at all.
Overall, people check out your social media because they're interested in you. Because they live vicariously through you and they are fascinated by the stories your life can tell. We're all voyeuristic by nature, and by the nature of our jobs, we have a unique platform to use to tell some of these stories. Stay humble. Live out loud. And give 'em a show.
