Mom Madness
They did this for Jo Bros tickets at one of the CHR's circa 2009. The Final Four was pretty omnipresent and Mothers Day is a couple of weeks away. If you had something that a mom would want to win for their kid, have them come and shoot free throws, like the above-mentioned station did.
Proms, Grads, DUI's
Back when Radio pretended to care about it's listeners, we would do community based campaigns that addressed issues specific to the station's audience.
One of the biggest promotions I ever was a part of was Project Graduation which was an all night grad party, lock-in dealie at a theme park for 14,000 graduates. They would go directly from their ceremonies by bus to the place and spend all night riding rides and watching a concert put on by the station. It was huge and about 10 months of effort went into it.
Kiss in Boise does better community "stuff" than pretty much any CHR I can name. And are #1 in the market. For New Years, Lucky from the airstaff went and got himself arrested in a faux DUI event. It was coordinated through the local PD and was meant to try and highlight what happens when you don't get a designated driver.
Proms and graduations are very popular nights to take large gasoline powered machines and drive them at high rates of speed into inanimate objects. Which is why, regularly, schools will go out and do demonstrations with smashed cars to try and scare some sense into the kids.
A video version of "Please God, I'm Only 17" would be amazingly powerful. http://www.snopes.com/glurge/only17.asp
Fakebook
This came up in an email exchange last night. Think of it as the social media equivalent of Fugitive.
You create a resident of your market and a Facebook page for them. Get them some friends. A profile. Have them like a bunch of local stuff...and then alert the audience that someone in the city has (amazing tickets or artist experience). All you have to do is start friending everyone you can find, and ask them if they're the (Station) Fakebook.
In Albuquerque at KOB-FM there were 700 people who eventually stumbled on the right person and they drew from them for No Doubt meet and greets.
Best New Summer Umbrella...
...InstaSummer from a very cool Promotion Director at a very cool station who shall remain nameless util late May.
It will be all about social media coverage of everything that's happening in this market where it snows 8 months of the year. Insta Parties (like Flash Mobs but with food and beverage and music), Insta Satisfaction (prize delivery) and a lot of Instas to be determined.
Caddyshack
THAT got a lot of your attentions. Maybe not for the CHR's, Urbans and Rhythms but for the rest of you, I'd guess that if you did a Top Ten Movie Poll on the website, this would be in the results.
It's the 33rd Anniversary. Which means? Really nothing expect that if you had a promotional hole to fill in the summer, you could do something with this.
One of the most quoted films of all time. I'd invite all your local fans down to a bar for a 'Shack Off. See how is the ultimate Caddy Geek. Win some green. Time.
Cayrock on Grand Cayman hosted a Caddy Day at a hotel pool. (It was really open to anyone; "Obviously we trust no one would LIE just to go swimming and party for an afternoon".)
Or do "Night On The Green" and do a screening at night on a golf course. And, for the 1000th time, you can hire Cindy Morgan ("Lacy Underall") to come in. Appearances is pretty much how she puts food on the table these days.
