Say Yes To The Fest
The Phrase That Pays has been a staple since Marconi was an intern and always works. Ten words seems to be the sweet spot. I was trolling a station where it ran a bit long and was only missing "And now listen to us on HD1!"
V in Atlanta did arguably the best phrase: "I listen to V-103, now gimme my damn money". KZIA in Cedar rapids parodied the competition and did The Paragraph That Pays and included "All of our winners actually live here and you're not competing against listeners at 8000 other radio stations. I mean, who does that? Yeesh".
So why don't you over-simplify it. Say " yes" and win.
DJ: Paige, do you want to see the Fabulous Minnesota Barking Ducks play at Taco Daze in Scandia.
Paige: Yes.
DJ: That was easy. And Other Fashion Features
Dez, Ryan & Crisco as the immensely rated KS95 in the Twin Cities did their own version of "Who Wore It Best". https://www.facebook.com/KS95FM/posts/10156634979053013
Because "Organ" Is Funny
If you know someone who can play an organ, you are closer to fun and frivolity(tm) than you realized.
One of the Townsquare stations in Washington State had tickets to a hockey tournament AND there was an old-school ice rink in town with a guy who played a pipe organ. So he mashed up Rock songs: ID and win the tickets.
At New Country 92.3 in Fredericton they do it was daily prizes and bragging rights. http://www.newcountry923.com/magical-organ/
Air Conditioning: The Prize That Keeps On Giving
One of the stations has an AC client who wanted a promotion. Very simple. You go to either a community college that offers classes or to a hotel or country club that has an ice carver on staff. They do your station logo. You put it out in the sun, webcam it and people vote on when it will melt or, perhaps, a medallion that is frozen in it, drops out. Closest without going over, wins the AC or their electric bill paid.
Speaking Of Ice Blocks
The sales assistant at KSFM tipped me to a cool activity called Ice Blocking. (I tipped her to a cool activity called Gerbiling...and all of the sudden, I started getting all these formal letters from her attorneys. Anyway...) Basically you find a grassy hillside and you sit on a block of ice and ride it down the hill. Hot day and looking for a morning show bit? There you go.
