And They Even Explain How They Pulled It Off
Amazing use of their electronic outdoor from Jacaranda-FM in South Africa. Thanks to Scott Sands with iHeart in Toledo for the find.
The Reference Call
People like drama. If any of the Real House Wives shows had everyone getting along, they would have been cancelled after the first episode. (Say what you want about my family but leave Kim Richards out of it!!!) Which is why stuff like "War Of The Roses" works. The audience doesn't know its fake and as one of the PD's said "I hate it but if we dropped it the villagers would riot."
A couple of years ago a PD got caught in a power struggle between corp, local, another corp guy and even a consultant and lost. Consultant says "That's horrible. I feel awful. Use me as a reference." Guy does. And hears back "Yeah, your reference trashed you up and down."
So, one of the Newcap morning shows does a feature called the Reference Call. A listener calls and says someone they want to use as a reference but are kind of on a fence about it. The morning show call the person up, say that they're with Innatech and what can they tell us about (listener). Drama ensues. Win.
This Is Brilliant
You should quarterly go out and scope out and see what kind of set up the competition does at remotes and appearances. An iHeart Marketing Director has challenged her street teams and promo staff to create the next new set-up:
We have a "budget" of $5000 and need to come up with new ideas for our remote/appearance set ups. The winning team will get to make the set up come to life. Deadline is December 20th. As far as the physical set up goes (tent, back drop, speakers, etc) that stuff is simple in coming up with what we need. The bigger challenge is new ideas to draw our listeners into the tent, keep them there and convince them to share what they've experienced with others and on social media platforms.
