ALT 94.9 in San Diego has a history of giving away gadgets(tm) and doing great video series to support the promotions. Right now they're doing AI (Alexa Invasion) and are giving away Echo Plus's times a day. When Phil Becker was with Oasis Radio, they had a really good track record of surprising kids at schools with tickets and also artists. Ditto with KJ-103 in OKC. When Do We is getting brought through the market and they're enlisting the audience to narc out a friend who is a big fan, so she can be summoned to the Principal's office...and there they are. "Listeners" > Promos
One of the stations had a REALLY great Bruno package that had been paid for by a client and was going to wrap up with an event at the clients. And, as we tend to do, they ran promos for the contest that had you sharing a photo of your carat or carrot for an opportunity to come and play for the Grand Prize. 48 hours before the event they had no one that had done it.
This is never good and especially when you have a client that will actually SEE the participation.
So, they flooded the social media and phone lines with "listeners" talking about what they were doing with carats or carrots that would be creative for a shot to be shared. They also cut a promo from a guy from an advocacy group for carrots: "They have an aura. A spirit. They're as alive as you and me so to degrade and denigrate them denigrates us all!"
Boom. Ton of entries and the client was thrilled. Promos all sound the same and no one wants to participate in something that no one else wants to participate in, so spike in some calls from the moment the contest starts.
