Burn Your Bills
I've always wanted to burn or otherwise destroy bills. For Valentines K-Rock in St. Johns was daily destroying with pyrotechnics, old reminders of past relationship. One morning it was a "love tape".
Listener's Marketing The Station, Part 1
A few years back CBS in NY got massively screwed by a label, to the point that even the label was like, "Yeah, we screwed you." But they said "Okay, we'll give you Gaga for 30 minutes..." A woman who now works at Cumulus here once had RATT on her answering machine at her apartment. "This is (bleep) RATT. Amy's not here. Leave her a (bleep) message!" She kept the message for 10 years.
So NY had Gaga cut vm messages for 25 winners. They took the names, had a recording device and she freestyled a greeting for each person, who then received the file electronically. My guess is that they'll be on there forever. https://soundcloud.com/cprpromo/now-chunky-prom
Personalitizing(TM ) Your Contests
99% of all contest imaging pretty much sounds the same, which I think might play a part in the fact that a whopping 7% of our listeners will try to text to win $1000. Rite Aid spots are more interesting. Over the years, I've seen stations have some genuine fun...and...wait for it...success, with adding a character to their promos.
- Rocco The Janitor at Wired in Philly had Jenny, a Thai hooker girlfriend, who was originally created to piss off the Clear Channel attorneys after the Wild C&D. When she said "Wired", it sounded like "Wild" and the lawyers went nuts
- Power 96 in Miami had a drop of a young Brazilian woman who was asking "Have you seen my bikini top?" that wound up in just about every promo. For no apparent reason.
- KSFM in Sacramento had the bastard GM who would pop up a few times a year to add a premise to their promotion.
- 102 Jamz in Orlando had the Berglunds, an RV driving family of four from rural Minnesota.
- Kiss in Charlotte had the Free Money Monkey, KTFM in San Antonio had the Free Money Dog and Alice in Denver had The Free Money Gerbil.
- Kiss in Boise had Dready D, a Jamaican poolboy the owner's daughter had picked up and green carded home after Spring Break.
- Kiss in Poughkeepsie had Artie Shankman, a Las Vegas ticket broker who operated out of a van parked at the AM/PM Mini Mart on Flamingo
And since they're doing Coachella tickets 13 times a day (these are million dollar prizes), and since everyone has had an insane gym coach in school, 94/9 in San Diego has Coach Chella.
