Tyler's Tarot
I've always said that if you have an air talent who happens to be ordained, then you are pretty set for life: there are so many things that you can do. KLUC in Vegas has a DJ who reads tarot cards. https://kluc.radio.com/blogs/tyler-foxx/tylerfoxx-kluc-tarot
Confessions In Professions
Several years ago I was at a station and the GM was lamenting that the morning show was "Just not that funny and it's kind of painful to listen to them try to be." Steve Jones, in a moment of clarity from his usual mescaline-addled persona said, "Then let the audience pick up the slack and find ways for THEM to be the humor."
It be tru, yo. In fact, every field has great stories. My brother is a doctor and has hilarious stories. I look forward to Thanksgiving just to hear them. One of the old Saginaw DJ's from WIOG is now a flight attendant and she's got a million stories. I drove a cab for one summer. I'm set for life.
So Frankie at 97.1ZHT in Salt Lake City does Confessions In Professions. It kills. https://971zht.iheart.com/featured/frankie-and-jess/content/2019-02-05-text-topic-confessions-in-professions-working-from-home/
Best Use Of Sounds In A Safety Video
I fly American Airlines a ton so have sat though their safety video, well, a ton. It's very creative and you actually WANT to sit through and watch it. At about 1:00 they show how they recorded ambient noises on a plane and incorporated it into the presentation.
We're a sound based medium. Secret Sound has been a fantastic methodology for Radio since people were filling out diaries on cave walls. One of the stations is going to do a fake beach house all summer. Power 96 in Miami and KLUC in Las Vegas have both done this and the key is the sounds. The stuff you hear in the background. Real life does not sound like a studio. A beach house does not sound like a studio. If it did, it would be a pretty boring beach house, which is why they're already archiving noises and storyboarding their summer.
Running Of The Balls
I saw Mike Preston do it at The Wolf in Seattle at an on-site for Kenny Chesney. A hundred numbered beach balls being blown across a parking lot with a leaf blower. The first across a line won front row tix for it's assigned listener. This is that promotion on steroids, done at a Cornell football game for Rolling Stones tickets.
