Lost Loves
We're about 30 days from the start of class reunion season which is something that I have not seen too many stations take advantage of.
First, you could do a spin on what WIOG in Saginaw did the week of Christmas. All of the single men and women who were going to be traveling home for the holiday and dealing with parents and friends asking about their love lives, could stop by the station on the way to the airport and with a gender appropriate model, get a photo in front of a tree as if it was their office party. They then posted the photo to their social media and saved it on their phone for the inevitable grilling. "Tracy would have loved to come. We've been seeing each other for a couple of months but she's visiting her family on Long Island. She sends her love." Boom. The family is redirected for a year.
Or do a spin on "The One That Got Away" and help, coach, facilitate a listener finding someone they dated briefly twenty years ago and hooking them up for the reunion. Done as "Like A Virgin 2.0" by KLUC for some Madonna thing six or seven years ago.
Destination Unknown
Trips are great prizes and like $1000, we've dumbed them down to meaning nothing.
Terry O'Donnell did the Fast Food Fly Away when he was with another cluster in Albany. Four concert flyaways were themed around going to eat McDonalds or Subway or BK...right before stepping across the street to see Justin Timberlake or Katy Perry. With the first contest, they never mentioned the artist. Just that you won a $20 giftcard to (chain) and qualified for dinner for two, up to a $25 at the same chain. It was presented very straight. When Chrissie and Brian called to congratulate the winner, they included that they would want to chow down quick because the line to see the Jonas Brothers across the street would be pretty long. The artist was always revealed when the grand prize person was called.
KOB-FM in Albuquerque has done Next Flight Out. They have taken a caller at 9:59 AM on Friday, gone and picked them up at 10:30 in a limo, got them to the airport and got them and their guest two seats on whatever the next flight was. It could be Lubbock. It could be San Francisco. While they were in the air they booked them two nights of hotel.
KUBE in Seattle did Air KUBE. 25 pairs of winners winning trips but they didn't find out where to, until they got together for breakfast at an airport hotel two hours before leaving. Kind of like this, thanks to Mike Marino. http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/eco-tourism/blogs/travel-company-will-plan-your-next-trip-they-wont-tell-you-destination-until-you-leave?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark
