Pets
Pet's are a hot button. Like kids, the military and Melissa Joan Hart. One of the stations has a car dealer that would like to tie in pet adoptions. Cool! And smart.
Shelters have gotten into using groomers to get the pets looking more presentable and even music therapy to calm them down, because who wants to adopt a dog who is spinning in circles and barking like crazy. It's almost like staging a house for sale. With this client, I think the station is going to feature a different adoptable pet each week...sitting in the front seat of a car, head out the window with a huge smile on its face. Who wouldn't adopt that?
Pet Psychics They exist and if you have one at an event, people will most assuredly come.
Petarazzi There can be a LOT of money to be made with gallery promotions and "pet costumes" have never failed to work, but what if you themed it on Hollywood: dress up your pet as a character from a movie, snap, submit, post, vote.
Pet Food Drive There is an actual need for pet food for people who are struggling financially. During the very exciting fiscal year of 2009, my friend Kelly had to give up her dog because the bar where she 'tended burned down and she lost her job at a factory in Stillwater. And she wasn't alone. The shelters were overrun with pets whose owners could no longer afford to keep and feed them.
Spay Day Tie in a consortium of vets across your market to do a day of free neutering.
Christmas Photos Have an event this Fall that needs a hook? Get a set-up and a photog and have people bring their animals for the family holiday photo.
Petiscope David Letterman cam'ed his dog and used to show a PPOV of what he did while Dave was at work. Could be a morning show thing.
Yappy Hour Done by a station on Grand Cayman on a Saturday. Bring your pet to a restaurant/bar and while volunteers washed him/her/it for an in-kind donation to the local humane society, go inside for discounted drinks.
Pet On The Masthead 94.9 in Cincy, for a long time, had a happy smiling dog up in the right corner on the site as opposed to a bunch of Getty Images of artists. KOFY TV 20 in San Francisco, for decades had the TOH done by pets. The waiting list to get yours featured was measured in YEARS. So, the week after we launched Wild I called and asked if we could get the pets from the staff bumped to the front of the line. BING BANG BOOM. I was suddenly the most popular employee of the station.
You could maybe do this for new music. A listeners dog enjoying the R Kelly's new song about middle school cheerleaders for instance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRC2Qwt3m8s
