Snow Globes
One of the stations has a familiar problem:
- The toy drive is kind of petering out.
- They have one VERY generous listener who gives huge numbers of toys and goes to every remote.
It's hard to get people to give you stuff at a time when everybody has their hand out asking for donations. You need a hook. Some kind of big, over the top angle. Like torturing a DJ.
Because of weather considerations, living on a billboard won't work. BUT...living in a snowglobe at a very busy intersection outside the biggest mall in the market is feasible. And they're going to do it.
Lots Of Apples
A brilliant idea from Brad Michaels with Newcap: as a Christmas promotion, give a winner ALL of Apples latest products. Which could be presented as "Win An Orchard".
Bodcasts
It's traditional in January for stations to do promotions based on the insane caloric intake from the holidays. And I think it's in our continued interests to have our listeners not die from coronary artery disease.
So why not pair members of the morning show up with listeners and with a fitness client, a healthy food client and a healthcare provider and have them document their battles to lose the handles before Valentines.
Yule Blog
Channel 45 in the Twin Cities does something on Christmas Day that has kind of become a tradition in the market. They have a live, commercial free shot of a roaring fire. For people who don't have fire places. It's kitschy and I think everyone clicks past for a few minutes each December 25th.
No one has ever done it on their site or Facebook Lived it. And the most exciting part for little kids is when a hand reaches in from out of frame to toss another log on the fire. It's the moment that completes the holiday.
