Tweety To Your Sweety
Often imitated but never matched Mix94.9 in Cincinnati had done Love Note; go to the station website and post love messages to your significant other or the girl from highschool you’re stalking on Facebook.
Could also be done at Tweety To Your Sweety. (Almost) real-time messages posted for all to see. I would obviously have someone screening for content.
There Is Never A Right Answer
For your Valentines list, one of the morning shows did the Guess Your Spouses Weight for dinner, tickets to Keith Urban and a couples massage.
DMV Makeovers
Ric and Scott at KZIA did this a few years ago. Few people are happy with their drivers license photos and once it’s taken, it’s yours for years. A station-to-remain-nameless has a beauty school that needs a promotion. What if you had students from the school set up outside the DMV or adjacent to it and give women showing up for their renewal a quick comb through, maybe some styling gel, some makeup touchups. The promo needs to have a quick legal tag that: station is not responsible for blinking, lazy eye or other facial malfunctions.
The Bucket List
One of the morning shows have started a Bucket List for themselves. And over the next year they're going to cross items off their lists. He, inexplicably, wants to, and I quote, "Go all Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and host a drag show." She wants to try her hand at burlesque and is slated to hit the stage with a local troupe in March.
Client notification: I'm going to be on the road and visiting that station on a TBD date next month as we re-do their clocks and create initiatives.
Schulte and Swann at KZIA in Cedar Rapids have done "The 101's" which are a series of classes where they try something new, like cooking or golfing along with listeners who haven't done those activities either.
Only the most hardcore Socialist would be blind to the sales opportunities with these things.
Kate McGwire at Mix 106 in Boise called it Kate University. She found or her listeners suggested, new things for her to tackle in life. She had her own damn college crest. Among the things she did?
- Burlesque dancing
- Skiing/Boarding
- Skydiving
- Mountain Biking
- Financial Planning
- Wine Tasting
- Belt Buckle making
- Rock Climbing
- Snow Shoeing
- Fly Fishing
- Belly Dancing
- Pole Dancing
- Be Your Own Bartender
- Cooking classes
- Zip Lining
- Hot Yoga
- Zumba
- Gaming/Casino Night
- Kayaking
- Paintball
Or you could do Battle Of The Sexes and try to avoid all contact and interaction with the listeners because, honestly, who would want to go out and hang with them anyway?
Better Than Family Tata Packs
93.1 The Wolf in Greensboro won “Best New Name” a couple of years ago. On Thursdays they did Fun Bags all day. Granted not as exciting as Family Four Packs or Prize Packs or Summer Survival Kits.
They had some swag, a CD and passes to that nights' event.
"You'll love our Fun Bags".
C'mon. This, and meeting people in the van after club gigs, is why most of us got into Radio.
