Girl Scout Cookies
They are as much a part of our cultural experience as Super Bowl parties, People Of Walmart, video preview booths and high school football. Apparently it’s “season” again because a lot of stations are all over this.
Dave Ryan once asked me to share links to “sitcom clichés”. Plot lines or story arches that just about every sitcom used at some point. And a cookie battle was almost ALWAYS in there. I think Ross bought a truckload to impress a woman on “Friends
One of the stations was in a market where their on-sale was delayed by two weeks so they drove about 200 miles, bought up a TON, brought them back and gave them away. Phones melted which again proves that we can totally overthink prizing.
Vid Blogs
Quite a few of you do them. It’s sometimes reminds me of when we started webcamming the studios; it proved to our audience that we actually have a pretty boring job. The stations that did it right, storyboarded it so there was stuff you might miss if you didn’t watch closely. With KSFM in Sacramento there was a guy in Production you could see in the background and every day he’d fall down and hurt himself and in one case, he set himself on fire. Kind of like this:

Now, granted, “How I Met Your Mother” was an abject failure so I wouldn’t look to it for guidance or ideas.
