Social Media Juice
I saw this blowing up yesterday courtesy of a morning show co-host: We don't like to talk about politics on the show, but with the primaries going on, we wanted to know: if YOU were running for office, what's out there on the internet right now, or what picture on social media, would ruin your chances of winning?
First Responder Pageant
A few of the stations like The Beat in Vancouver, KLUC in Las Vegas and Hot in Ottawa have done “Office Hottie” which is basically Baby Idol but with attractive co-workers of both genders. It spun out of a meeting in Vancouver where Mandy referred to Blake the receptionist as “Our office hottie. Every office has one.”
This morning in San Diego, John and Tammy at KSON are doing a pageant of first responders with the winner and their spouse going to see Miranda Lambert https://kson.radio.com/blogs/
“Friends”
Radio has enough problems without encouraging the listeners to go and watch TV, which is why a lot of Market Managers won’t do “Watch & Win” promotions with affiliates unless there’s some kind of bounce back where you have to listen to the station. “Turn off Moug at 7:30 tonight and flip on WB65 and watch ‘Homeboys In Orbit’ to win a WB65 prize pack!”
But you also can’t ignore events like The Super Bowl or the Grammys or the “Friends” reunion that could occur as early as May with the debut of HBO Max.
So…start planning and getting our valued clients™ on board.
Can you get a a stylist to give some listeners “Rachel Greens”?
Frankie & Jess at 97.1 ZHT in Salt Lake City refer to their listeners as “friends” and even do a Friendsgiving event and broadcast in November. This would be a great and inclusive theme for a viewing party with the airstaff.
Jeff & Jenn do The Best Friends Game at Q-102 in Cincinnati. That could be something to spike in the week of the reunion. Note that is IS tm’ed. https://www.wkrq.com/the-jeff-jenn-best-friend-game/
You’ll need an orange couch and a lamp for your photo opp at whatever you do.
And did you know that they actually sell similar couches? https://kson.radio.com/blogs/
Start tracking down Maggie Wheeler on social media. She’s the actress who played Janice and is a hoot. A station in Milwaukee got her for the series finale.
People “know” the show. Much like their was a book called Seinology with facts and trivia about that show. If not a contest to award free coffee, at least work some in to The $1000 Minute or whatever other trivia based contesting you might have going on that week.
A lot of stars did cameos. I doubt you’re going to get Brad Pitt but maybe Hank Azaria or Selma Blair might do a phoner. https://www.insider.com/
If it happens in May, then baseball is in season. Why not do a “Friends Night” much like the Brooklyn Cyclones do a Seinfeld Night every season. http://brooklyncyclones.com/seinfeld/
Or ignore it completely. You have that choice. This is not North Korea.
