How To Greet People In March 2020
A tutorial vid from MoJoe and Huggy with Alpha in Portland. www.facebook.com/mojoeroberts/
Can’t Touch This
If you watch ten programs on Coronavirus, there are maybe two or three things that they all agree on and one them is DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE. As a friend from school messaged me about the time she goaded me into sticking a hotel TV remote control in my mouth and added “It’s seriously hard to stop touching your face.”
Which, once you’re aware of it, you do a TON. So…cam each of the morning hosts for the entire shift. Then go back and montage the 118 times they touch their faces during the show.
Treasure Hunts vs Scavenger Hunts
And yes, there’s a difference.
Treasure Hunts are most likely to give corporate lawyers because occasionally a station will screw it up and listeners will dig up the mayors rose bushes.
You hide something like a medallion and give clues as to where it is. Done as Follow The Bieber by Wired in Philly, the clues were like this at appointment times.
- Leave the station, go up to (road) and take a right. Go until you see a giant donut on a pole (a revolving tire on a Meineke roof)
- Turn towards the east and go until you run into some holes (golf course)
In the case of the CHR in Minneapolis, it led to a medallion under a bleacher near the fairgrounds.
The other option is to do clues that make you have to guess where Orlando lost the backstage passes. The first person to call in and say “In the satellite dish at Fox 13” won.
Digital versions have been Periscope For A Pair (find a DJ based on a live feed), searching the site for a hidden icon, and Bug’d where there is a live mike in town and you find it based on real-time SFX.
Scavenger Hunts are where you give out twenty items for people to collect and bring in. Jamz in Orlando did it for NBA All Star Game tickets. 97 Rock in Buffalo has done it many times and I have rules if you’d like to see them.
The digital version is what many stations have done with mobile scavenger hunts. Give out ten things to find when you’re at the fair, bring it by our booth, our cheerful promo team will look through the pics and if you got all ten, you win a big piece of cheese
Or what Q-107.5 in Memphis did with 21 Selfies for 21 Pilots meet and greets. People collected 21 selfies of things they were assigned to track down and find.
