Ugh
Kind of lost in “everything” is that Canada experienced their worst mass shooting in history on Sunday when 16 were killed by a nut in Nova Scotia. Troy Scott with Rogers got on the phone with the PD at Halifax at JACK and immediately looked at the music logs. Playing something that is “at that moment really inappropriate” is one of the easiest fixes that you can ever do and it will take 15 minutes. I always refer to KQRS in Minneapolis playing “And The Walls Came Tumbling Down” at 11:15 am on 9/11 as something that someone should have looked at and thought, “Maybe...not.”
Captain Smile
Huh.
This is weird.
Someone wearing a mask is going around Seattle and buying stuff for people.
Not Ready For COVID Players
Radio is cyclical and we tend to rediscover “stuff”. For a couple of years in the early 90’s there was a morning feature that ran on a lot of stations. For lack of a better term, it was a soap opera or Radio drama that featured the morning show and then 3-5 listeners every week based on how many calls they were technically able to air at the same time. The talent would type up a new script each week and then solicit for, say, two women and a guy. They’d get their actors, fax them their scripts, and on Friday morning get everyone together and act/read their lines. Which brings me to….
(Market’s) Got Locked Down Talent
Talent shows were a genre of entertainment on the Radio in the 1930’s when people tried to escape their predicaments by hoping to get discovered and become big stars.
And while we can’t help someone leapfrog to stardom in Hollywood, with platforms available to us like Zoom or just Instagram, it’s something that I haven’t seen any stations try.
They’re home. They’re bored. Cool. Show us (and our sponsors) what you can do.
Scoop The Loop
This is great. From Jamie Grout at Alpha in Newton-Grinnell-Marshalltown:
To give people a chance to get out and also show neighbourliness and community pride we did a "Scoop The Loop" We tied in with the local Chamber Of Commerce and United Way to publicise the event. We had over 200 cars with people in them honking, waving, giving thumbs up and holding up signs of support to each other. I drove the station van during the event and we played "crusin" type music for the hour long cruise as we went up and down Main Street in Newton, Iowa.
What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Holly Morgan with the Mix 94.9/Cincinnati morning show decided to see what would happen when she drank and applied makeup.
