Operation Giveback
From PK at Power 96.1 in Atlanta and this has been sold to and sponsored by McDonalds:
I’m a very cynical person. I don’t want to be this way but twenty years of radio has taught me that when I solicit for people that need help sometimes the people that don’t need help and up 'winning it’. So for our Givebacks, I try and help people that don’t even know us.
Example- I saw a couple on the news that had their engagement ring stolen from their car the NIGHT the guy was going to propose. I lined up the interview and at the end gave them a honeymoon and covered the deductible so they could get a new ring: https://youtu.be/nnr2d742S3E
Another one of my favorites was Music Midtown. It’s a huge festival that happens in Atlanta. Well, the day of the festival I went back to the station and grabbed whatever tickets weren’t picked up. We walked around asking random houses if we could come inside and party with them (without telling them who we were). One house invited us in and we gave all 20 people inside tickets to the two day festival. I’m pretty sure they are still talking about that day: https://youtu.be/OAvAMuhlr50
- We hooked up an entire staff with tickets to a concert (without them knowing): https://youtu.be/-HIhHqHEQkQ
- Poor CJ didn’t have anyone attend his birthday party so we went: https://youtu.be/alFGEcHhXoA
- We bought random people McDonalds for ‘World Kindness Day’: https://youtu.be/DKfmCPaEWd8
Seeds Of Hope
Social media does all of our research for us. You just have to look. People having game nights. People going biking with their families. People adopting pets in record numbers. People using the downtime to reenter Continuing Education. And starting this past weekend? Gardening.
This is going to be THE summer for a lot of people to get out in their yards and grow something.
If you think of this as a war, they’re just replicating the Victory Gardens of World War II.
So, one thing you could do would be either a Zoom’ed seminar or a video series hosted by a lawn and garden client.
You could do a continuing gallery as people share what they’re growing.
You could do an end of season Produce Pageant.
There are also food shelves that accept home grown produce.
When I was in San Francisco for Earth Day we got logo’ed packets of wild flower seeds. There are quite a few vendors that will do that.
Lawn Signs
This is something that Mojo started doing in Detroit and is now up and running at Hot in DC and Z in Baltimore. It’s a GREAT idea.
A Virtual Graduation
Like a lot of stations, KxKy in San Diego is soliciting senior photos and stories from stations. But, their hook is going to be a graduation ceremony on May 29th when all of the pics and are compiled into a video with the names read as they are “announced”.
