8 Weeks In
If you are running out of quirky social media topic starters for social media, try, “What did you catch your spouse hoarding?” I found an industrial box of Cheezits behind my wife’s office supplies last night.
If you don’t think that it’s too erudite for your audience, try soliciting a limerick that describes lockdown life. A columnist for the Minneapolis paper offered up a “commemorative roll of toilet paper” and was buried in entries. This is from my friend Scott. He should have won.
The streets are all very sleepy
The emptiness borderline creepy
Seems strange to inquire
What these hoarders desire
I need that commemorative TPBy the way, there are now TP earrings and I can call Halloween 2020 right now: rolls of toilet paper are going to be the costume.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Great hair. Amazing hair. KILLER HAIR is my signature. My brand. Much like alcohol and Keith Richards and Elvis Costello’s glasses. So this is obviously a very unsettling time for me. I got an email from the place here in Scandia. They are anticipating opening June 1 and their first available appointment is like July 23rd or something.
That’s a hook. That’s what you should be planning towards.
Any time you stick “World’s Largest” as a prefix in front of a promotion, boom, you get some traction. I don’t think people are looking for a GREAT cut on Opening Day. They just don’t want to look like a roadie for the Georgia Satellites anymore. COULD you get dozens of retired stylists, barber students and other volunteers and do Hair Stock at a football field? Freewill donation. Socially distanced but with the semblance of a crowd. Maybe a hair band. You’d get on CNN.
Or, just do what we do at Christmas with getting into the mall early, or giving out dinner reservations for Valentines: could you lock down some chairs on the first day in your market with a client salon? Giving away the cuts would be great, but giving them cuts to the front of the line would be just as large.
Scenes From San Diego
This is a great series from Rob and Joss at KxKy in San Diego where they’ve been recreating local scenes and taking their listeners to places like the zoo…in their home. This episode? Coronado Beach.
Brag About Your Grad
Mojo at Channel 95.5 in Detroit launched his Class of 2020 salute yesterday and they have a form for all the info you’ll need to heap kudos and accolades on your kid.
More Gift Cards
iHeart in Salt lake City is the latest to use gift card sales to help local businesses. This was started by Beasley and it’s a GREAT campaign. I can do my Christmas shopping now and help out the community at the same time.
