Maskerpiece Theater
Sarah Pepper and the morning show at Mix in Houston have had some fun with parodying Mexican TV over-the-top Novella’s during lockdown.
myTalk in the Twin Cities has done film adaptations using puppets. And Virgin Radio in Vancouver had a long-running series called The Fake Film Festival. The quality of the entries was always nuts which I think, in some part, was due to it being a film industry town.
So what if you awarded a “family” prize to the family with the best 60 second recreation of a classic movie scene…wearing decorated masks?
COVID-10 Googlizing
If you haven’t noticed already, businesses are getting creative with sticking masks on “mascots” and other signage. The vet in town has one on the statue of the dog out front.
An unchanged logo is a boring logo, as witnessed by Bonneville in LA during SARS.
And 101.5 K-Hits in Sacramento during COVID:
Things You Might Be Able To Trade
Looking towards the summer we’re going to need to be creative with acquiring prizing and also the kind of prizing that would be appropriate for right now. Or then.
So a very wise and long term thinker just asked, what could you get on trade?
In every market there seems to be a place that everyone flees to on summer weekends. In the Twin Cities it’s “the lakes”. In Portland, “the coast”. In Charlotte, either Myrtle Beach or the Smokies. In Philly, it’s the Jersey Shore. It’s going to be interesting to see if people are hesitant to head out or it will be like Mothers Day when people lost their flipping minds. But, if you could get some rentals to giveaway on trade, boom. It could be a hot prize.
Since Marconi was an intern, “Summer Survival Kits” have been Radio’s summer cliché. And this year, the term might actually be applicable. What would go in it? What couldn’t go in it?
If you have not given away swimwear, then you have not seen the phone system melt down. Rick Thomas first did a Bikini Wax Weekend at Z-90 in San Diego, Power in Miami did it and here is the imaging from Wild in OKC.
BIG 98.7 in Fargo just did a $5000 Rainbow backyard play system. HUGE. People want to be outside, so there ya go.
Bikes. This summer, they’re going to be like trees in December. He who hath the mosteth will winneth.
Shoot big: an above ground (or inground pool).
One of the coolest things that I’ve ever seen was when for two or three summers in a row, Fly 92 in Albany built a listener a treehouse. Your Legal team might not agree with my assessment but it was COOL.
Grills and meat. Boom.
And as you’re currently seeing with Fill The Fridge at multiple stations, people LOVE FREE FOOD. In fact, somewhere, a station is preparing to give away “Groceries For A Year”.
