Summer Safety Tips
Things will be reopened but they will be a little different and with new policies and regs. During their 34 year run at #1 in the format, Power 96 in Miami had “fun” with the imaging. “Fun”. Can you believe the audacity? Disregard the link name, this is worth a listen: soundcloud.com/cprpromo/special-sweep-paula-3
Backpack Buddies
Tuesday was the day that several of the stations stuck Back To School on their radar, and, if you want to sell something for late August, now would probably be the time to do it.
Weinstocks used to do The Giving Tree. You’d go, pull a “family” off the tree and then go and buy their holiday needs. A girl I kissed in the loading dock at Southdale in 7th grade later became the First Lady of Minnesota and her veteran’s charity was pretty similar except that you’d maybe help the family you adopted out with “stuff” like fixing the plumbing (if you were skilled in that department) or walking the dogs on Tuesdays and Thursdays or coaching Timmy’s softball league. All things that one of the parents WOULD have been doing, but they were deployed.
What if you did that with kids in August?
WiLD in Tampa was the first station to do Gown Town and they let the school district and Catholic Charities do the work of identifying the girls who could use a free dress.
Have the schools come up with the kids and obviously not give a name or show a picture. On your page would be a wall of students to click on, ie: “B-89: an 11 year-old boy who needs a haircut, size 6 shoes, two shirts and two pants, three notebooks and a sliderule.” There would be a total that this would require and right there, you purchase it.
The schools could maybe forward a thank you from the student and their family to their anonymous “backpack buddy”.
Late August Cash Contesting
Stick this on your radar for the last part of August: 93.1 The Wolf in Greensboro had $300 a day to give away from a client.
$300 is kind of a weird amount.
So we did the math and framed it as “Win school lunches for a year!”. The phone system has yet to recover.
