Minute Mysteries
People have begun to post shots of their studios and stations slowly return to their facilities.
What if you returned to a mystery? Something that happened in the building while everyone was working from home. Solve the mystery and win a prize. Like the Fugitive but without four weeks of having people chase a ghost around town. myTalk in the Twin Cities got a week out of “who ate the pie from the frig” so it doesn’t have to be some big cash theft. Just some 60 second vids as the drive show documents what happened and then start tracking the clues.
Promotions Universal #3
Sandwiched between “If you pump free or discounted gas, you’ll get TV coverage” and “Adding a limo to a concert prize is maybe your best tradeable hook” is “Wacky or unusual weddings always get TV coverage. From Lightning 100 in Nashville where they are the 2nd station “on” the Virtual Wedding concept. https://www.wkrn.com/community/health/coronavirus/local-couple-wins-contest-will-have-virtual-live-stream-wedding-sunday/
Hair Fair
Another press universal is that anything involving cutting hair seems to get TV. Here is Sarah Pepper getting shaved after she hit her goal of raising $50,000 for leukemia research.
The local hair place here is opening June 1st. The first available appt is July 8th.
I’d lobbed this out a couple of weeks ago but now that cutting is about to commence, at least two stations are going to do BIG hair cutting events that will accept free-will cash donations for local agencies helping feed the furloughed. Pay what you can.
Chalk One Up
99.1 Hits-FM is next after KLUC in Las Vegas in regards to incentivizing sidewalk and driveway art this summer. https://www.991hitsfm.com/2020/05/24/9812/
Lake/River/Beach House
When people ask me what I think the coolest promotion EVER was, it takes all of three seconds before I say “The Xtreme Radio Beach House in Honolulu.” And it was STUPIDLY cool. But it was an insane amount of work. They had a house on the north shore that was their base of opps for the summer and 150 pairs of winners were invited per day to come and play.
So, at KLUC for a three day weekend, Cat Thomas just went and did a virtual one at “the lake” which was all theater and smoke and at least two mirrors. And you know what? For zero cost? It was equally cool on the air.
Last Summer Kiss 102.3 in Albany did their night show all summer from a faux lake house. And it was work, but it was cool and they sold it. Boom.
If even for the July 4th weekend to “relocate” to a lake would sound great and probably way way more tapped into the vibe than being logged tracks from a hermetically-sealed studio.
