A Virtual 4th
This will be an interesting 4th with social distancing and other restrictions. Lots of fireworks have been canceled. This isn’t nearly as exciting as hearing “Purple Rain” accompanied by the ending crescendo, but it would be nice accompaniment for whatever music feature you’re going to have. And there are several variations of this.
The Kick Ass Chick Of The Week
One of the stations was looking at doing a weekly feature about a “strong” woman in their market. I reached out to my focus group of non-radio W 25-54 and all dozen or so replies used “kick ass” in some variation or form. Which is what Cassiday did when she was at Hubbard in St. Louis…and it was huge:
Kick ass chick of the week is a weekly interview with a chick in your community that is kicking ass! Could be anyone from a female in local government to a mom who is driving her neighbor to her chemo treatments. You can gather nominations on the station website, as long as you are running regular promos for the feature, you’ll get them. Also a great way to tie sales in occasionally by featuring one of their clients as a kick ass chick (if the shoe fits).
The Toys Of Summer
NOW in SFO has switched up Secret Sound so that it’s “The Sounds Of Summer”. All the sounds to guess are going to be relatable to “Summer in the Bay Area”. Mojo in Detroit has brought back his holiday “Breaking And Entering” campaign to provide some surprise assistance to people who are having a bad summer because of, well, any number of reasons related to COVID-19.
So what if you did a traditional Christmas toy drive in July and collect frisbees, baseballs, slip ‘n slides and other “stuff” for kids whose parents are furloughed?
Or, get some bikes and other things from a client and give them away. Bike sales are through the roof this summer as people choose to stay closer to home.
Summer In Place
In case you were still fumbling for an umbrella.
Froggy 92.9 in Santa Rosa is dealing with the cancellation of their GINORMOUS summer show, Country Summer. So next weekend they’re doing it virtually.
