Thoughts & Prayers
Five employees at Beasley in Tampa have tested positive for COVID-19 which is a cautionary reminder that this is not over. Orlando (shown here in happier times when I took away his phone during a conf call with Mariah Carey and shoved it in my pants) shared his experience with the audience. Great talent open their lives to the audience and he’s a great great talent.
Zoos
And not of the morning variety. The Twin Cities is one of several markets where the closure has financially crushed the local zoo and there’s talk of closing it and relocating the animals.
Radio stations come and radio stations go. Great radio stations have legacies. About 15 years ago some local agency that provided resources to families of mentally handicapped kids in Atlanta got written out of the budget. V-103 swooped in, raised $300,000 in a week and saved the freaking program.
Getting on the air and begging for money or creating a gofundme account right now is not going to be a message that cuts through. If your zoo is in trouble, hit me up. Great radio stations have legacies. Saving the zoo would be a legacy.
Mothers Little Helper
One of the things I’ve begun to see pop up on social media is moms (and dads) trolling their friends for “stuff” to do to keep their kids occupied this summer. Back in April both 97.5 K-Rock in St. Johns and KZIA in Cedar Rapids created pages of resources and guides and activities for parents who suddenly found themselves at home with kids and the need to keep them sane and also educated.
With the help of our valued advertisers, this would be very timely and I’m sure, very well-received. KSFM did it it in Sacramento a decade before COVID and people flocked to the page.
The Great Canadian (Socially Distanced) Challenge
Just as our 4th will be WAY different this year as will July 1st, Canada Day up north. So a Stingray format is doing this in some of their markets. STEAL THIS:
Essentially we’ve created a list of socially distanced activities you can do on Canada Day since all the events have been canceled. Now we do have the local topography playing in our favour…
The list includes stuff like – a hike you’ve never done, swimming in the lake, capture a sunset, mountain biking, paddle boarding, etc.
Listeners submit their photos of completing an activity on our checklist to get 1 entry in to win…maple syrup for a year!A Virtual Job Fair
This is something that DBC has helped to create in Myrtle Beach.
