Kudos & Even An Accolade
To everyone at KSON in San Diego for winning a public service/humanitarian award from The Worldwide Radio Summit, and to Amanda Habrowski at Live in Portland for winning APD/MD. She’s a star. Congrats.
Drive-In Theaters
Wheeler Broadcasting in Roanoke and one of the Stingray markets are doing drive-in concerts, as have some Country artists.
If you actually have access to a drive-in, or, in the case of Santa Rosa where a Center for The Arts is going to create their own in their parking lot, doing a food drive is great. And there’s a need for food. I have a sales piece for the Canned Food Festival from ‘DVD in Detroit.
Quality Time Apart
Amy Reed with Alpha in Columbia may have had the best promotions idea for 2020: give away a divorce. We’ve already seen a couple of celebrity couples that couldn’t handle spending quarantime with each other. Just as there is going to be a baby boom in December and January, this summer you’re going to see a lot of marriages breaking up.
And that’s expensive.
Trade/mention out legal services, or, in some markets, you already have a lawyer who does call-in shows on the weekend. Then toss in moving service, a toaster for each of them and memberships to farmersonly.com
If you can’t do that for any number of reasons including poor taste, then Carlos at NOW in SFO suggested giving couple some time away from each other. Like, in opposite directions: she’d get a weekend in Napa and he’d get a weekend in Monterey.
This would actually be a pretty huge prize.
“Tell Us What You Want To Win”
This is kind of the contest version of Christmas Wish. From Marcy at Rogers in Vancouver:
When I worked at CFOX we did a contest called “Tell Us What You Want to Win” … we gave a husband a divorce lawyer. The wife was NOT happy. The lawyer got a bank of 30s ads on the radio station for his service. We did that with all the people who provided prizing.
For example we had a guy who needed a new fence (he had kids and the neighbour had a BIG dog) … we put the call out and a fence company called in, we did the deal and they got a bank of free ads as well. Lots of stipulations when the ads had t run, but might be a cool angle to do again on one of our stations??
