Fitness Clubs, Barbecue Joints, Fish Fries, Flea Markets
iHeart in Des Moines is having the audience vote for the best local ice cream parlor for National Ice Cream Day. One of the voters will get $100 to spend at the winning place. Entercom in Chattanooga did something similar with people voting for the best Mexican restaurant in conjunction with Cinco de Mayo.
You could do this with fitness clubs and craft beer places. A station in Vegas could do it with locals voting for the best “locals” casino. In the Carolinas maybe it’s the best barbecue place. (I found when I worked in Charlotte that families and particular allegiances to specific places, as in “There has never been an Abernathy that would step foot in a place other than R.O.’s”) Maybe fish fries in Cincinnati. Dispensaries or tat places in Portland. Flea markets in Phoenix.
So if there is a genre of food or business that is specific to your market, open it up for voting since this is in fact, an election year.
Staycations
People are using this summer to explore places closer to home. I think that my Digital person Bel has literally visited every hiking trail in BC this summer. So it’s cool and sponsored that Sully from Jack in Vancouver has become a tour guide for places that people should have on their “visit” list.
Catch Of The Day
If you are a fisher person like Jay at Mix in Cincinnati, a big portion of your social media content is dedicated to the fish that he has landed. And there-in lies a contest, as done by Wave 104 in Myrtle Beach. They’re going to be posting these pics so why not have them share with you for a chance of winning. Check out the gallery: they have some great entries.
Back To Schooling From Home
Based on a very unscientific perusal of what people are commenting on Facebook, a lot of parents are going to opt to continue the education-from-home plan.
We’re lucky because our daughters are homeschooled so this wasn’t a big shock to the system. For a lot of other families it was a scramble.
Stingray in St. Johns put together a resource list for parents back in March.
It wouldn’t be entirely bad to create your own and hopefully get it sponsored. In fact, for some of the curriculum like Phy Ed, have a fitness client Zoom the classes.
Khan Academy has some great suggestions for “structuring” the school day.
Going through these links might give you the stuff you need to cobble together some helpful info for parents and their kids.
This has a good list of free resources.
There’s a lot of the content the kids can use available on video and this page has a lot of good starting points for that.
This is more of “routines” and plans.
And these are reviews of all the apps that people can use for home educating their kids.
