Theming Fall Contesting
One of the stations has a bank-sponsored cash contest and were looking for a way to frame it. It’s 2020. It’s an election year and as annoying as it’s going to get with all of the hate and vitriol, it’s going to be hard to ignore. So why not take the opportunity and use it as “We’re buying your vote.” Get some lawn signs out. Spot them to win. Have fun with the OVER THE TOP promises and slander. Why? Because we may as well have fun with it.
Home School’ed Musical
A lot of parents, by choice, are going to continue to edicate their kids from home. Part of the curriculum is probably going to be music. Cool. Do you have access to an artist that could do a Zoom’d lesson with the kids? Maybe a one-off tutorial in “pitch” from Lewis Capaldi (as an example).
Or, turn it into a talent competition. Parents and kids would post a video of their at-home talent performance to maybe, as an example, win some stuff from a music store.
Speaking Of Home Education
I’d lobbed out that one of the stations was launching an initiative to get laptops into the hands of kids in their market who will be at home this Fall and don’t have the resources to be taking classes remotely. Kiss in Boston has launched it as “Chromebooks For Kids.”
Pam Of The Pandemic
(Thanks to a friend who was helping me brainstorm on something else, for the name)
One of the CHR’s created something called Minnesota Mommies which was a weekly toast to a woman who was getting stuff done. Kids washed and off to school. Food on the table. A roof over their heads. And the proverbial “etc.”. You’d alert the station to someone that you knew who you thought deserved recognition for her overwhelming awesomeness, and on Friday they’d call her, she’d cry, and she’d get a bunch of stuff from clients like spa treatments and gift cards.
We’ve honored front line heroes and home front heroes, what about doing that with women who have held everything together and probably also had to deal with a spouse who was suddenly home ALL THE TIME.
Take A Hike
One of the things that may have come from COVID is that we’ve rediscovered stuff like family game nights and the simple stuff like, taking a walk or riding a bike. Thank you to Dylan Salibury at Cumulus in Colorado Springs for tipping us to this simply brilliant and simply simple concept: give people stuff for going on hikes.
