Sending You Back…2016
Because the current reality for a lot of people kind of sucks, any forms of escapism that you can offer the audience is going to be well-received. I was on a call yesterday where one of the VP’s predicted that Christmas music is going to be bigger than any previous year. Ditto with Halloween.
106.1 Kiss-FM in Dallas is giving people a chance to return to the happier times with musical flashbacks. Today? 2016. Great imaging too.
Zoom Years Eve
A few years ago one of the markets was going to get POUNDED by a blizzard on New Years Eve. Blizzards are not surprises. You have some lead time. They knew that every event in town would cancel so they got everyone on the staff down to the station and threw the kind of raucous New Years Eve party that people would expect would happen at a radio station on New Years Eve in a blizzard.
And at about 3 pm all of the parties and events started cancelling and by 9 pm people were hunkered down in their homes or friends homes, listening to the radio.
What a concept.
The station webcammed their station party and were able to add in (I think) 70 or 80 other webcammed parties so everyone could ring in the New Year together. On Facebook they posted photos of the air staff with their lips puckered. So, if you have no one to kiss at midnight, kiss Rachel from the morning show.
People are going to be SO eager to put this stupid year behind them that they are going to ring out 2020 LOUDLY. But probably at homes and private gatherings.
So do what the aforementioned station did with Zoom and bring people together as they blow off fireworks, party and kick 2020 to the curb.
This would need to be story-boarded so that it’s more than just a live shot of the morning guy drinking wine with his dog.
You’d need at least a couple of hours of stuff happening.
So Zoom in a client who shows how to make homemade pizza.
Zoom in a client who shows how to make cocktails.
Zoom in your station psychic for a look at 2021.
Radio was the first social media. New Years Eve would be a GREAT opportunity to bring everyone together for a blow out.
2021
I heard an interesting historical reference yesterday.
What followed WW 1 and the Spanish Flu?
The roaring 20’s. A decade of alcohol fueled “blowing-off-steam” and celebrations for surviving it all.
If not for 2021, at least to send-off 2020, that’s a great vibe.
