Prizes & Prize Deliveries
Beasley in Philly is about to begin curbside pickup for prizes. From Sean Burke:
We will have limited hours every day. We will have reserved parking spots, and will be using our text platform as a form of contact.
Since March I’ve heard of stations have inexplicable luck with certain prizes. Scott Sands with iHeart in Toledo? -- Kayaks. Bicycles. Kayaks. And kayaks.
Anything that is market specific in terms of outdoor creation seems to be a home run, like hiking gear in one of the New York markets. Pools (kiddy, in-ground, above-ground) and bikes have been huge. Try to find a bike in a store right now.
So in the course of reaching out to stations yesterday I asked “How are you getting prizes to people and has their been anything that jumped out in terms of prizes that worked?”
From JB at KLUC in Las Vegas -- We have mainly done promotions with labels and they are sending directly to winners, after we receive email/esign release form. Or we do stay-cation type GA’s and they redeem at location. Staycations big, electronics seem good (appleTV, chromebook, Nintendo switch).
From Ice at Live 95.5 in Portland -- We gave away tickets to OMSI which is a science museum here and surprisingly the response after I contacted our winners was pretty awesome. They were ecstatic to have won something (some for the first time) and had something to do in the Summer with the fam/friends. Didn't think it would take off as it did. To redeem, OMSI had a spreadsheet on a Google drive we filled out as we picked winners and they just went straight to the museum! We also now have vPromo set up to email paperwork to listeners to fill out and send back! We're not open to the public with everything going on :( Our face masks were a huge hit too and I just mailed those to our fans with a personalized note :)
From Ben Davis with ‘DJX in Louisville -- Louisville had either A) mailed out prizing, or B) scheduled a prize pick up time at the station with the winner. Big wow prizes for us since this started has been the Hometown Heroes (lunch for Frontline worker and their crew), Chromebooks, and gaming systems.
From Jake Walker at 98.9 Magic-FM in Colorado Springs -- People are still eating up the Now that’s what I call music CD’s.. we’re on volume 75 of those now. Also people love the pop sockets!
From Brent Shelton at Stingray in Edmonton -- For prizing, we are still mailing out, as our offices remain closed.
As for prizing, we have had a couple of DRIVE-IN concerts from Country Artists… people loved the PASSES that get a car in to the event. Movie passes are good again too, as people are looking for entertainment.
We have also ran GETAWAYS our National Parks (Banff and Jasper). Include 2nights accommodations and an activity while on-site. People are loving these too.
Seems we are going back to the 80s as families and loading up the car for vacations!
Randi West with Hubbard in West Palm seems to concur in regards to nearby-vacays -- On Party I was somewhat surprised on entries for GC for bonefish and things like that. We did Rapids Water Park tickets and not surprising it was BIG but that one was obvious.
For WRMF- We did trips to Key West and were not sure on how people would feel about hotel stays or trying to win and NO ISSUE whatsoever. From what I’ve heard from my hotel hospitality friends the hotels are ghost towns so kind of surprises we can’t get more of those to giveaway considering…….
Jeff Davis with Cumulus in Fayetteville -- Emailing gift certificates with VPromo.
Carlos Pedraza with 99.7 NOW-FM in San Francisco -- The Bay Area & California is probably an exception b/c of the extended period of time we’ve had our “Shelter in Place” orders.
No pickups allowed
No deliveries either
We’ve offered to deliver prizes early on during the SIP & people are a little weird or hesitant about it.
Please note that ALL On-Air giveaways have been suspended on all of our stations – unless it’s CASH MONEY (which we mail them the check)
With the exception of CASH MONEY – all giveaway requests are executed via ON-LINE or SOCIAL only.
I’ve spoken to others within the company & other markets and Gift Cards of all kinds have been well received.
Mat Mitchell with KS95 in the Twin Cities -- We have “KS95 Branded” Echo Dots for giveaways
Listen at (contest times) to call 651.989.KS95 and answer this question: “What’s The Phrase That Plays?”
The correct answer is “Alexa, play KS95”. Give the correct answer and instantly win a KS95 Echo Dot!
The smart speaker puts radio back in the home, bedside, kitchen, and living space. Having the KS95 logo on the Echo Dot serves a great reminder to consume our brand in the land of Total Line Reporting.
Not sure if it’s a “wow” prize yet, but I do like that our logo is planted as reminder of the nifty lil’ tech device.
