Ain’t Patricks Day
People were busy battening down hatches in mid-March and this celebration of green beer got pretty much trampled in the rush to the exits. Next Thursday, September 17th, is the halfway point to next March. It would be entirely fitting in the tradition of Radio to find a stupid excuse to acknowledge this stupid occasion.
Pumpkin Spice Virgins
I once took the Sales Asst from KSFM over to Arden Fair Mall for lunch and it must’ve been December because there was a Santa. She told me that because of her parents religion she’d never got to sit on Santa’s lap. So we got in line and I bought her her first sitting. Davey and Chris opened it up as a topic the next day and there were a dozen adults who’d missed out, so they worked out a deal to get them in.
We’ve done “Virgins” in terms of “people who have never been to a theme park”, “Listeners who have never been to a casino even though there are 8 within 30 minutes” and with Cassiday at Kiss in Charlotte, “people who somehow escaped the joy of Burger King.” Because she’d never been. So she bought five people dinner.
The next Virgin Territory would be Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Here is Amy Kaye with Y-94 documenting her first time with PSL. She was not impressed.
October Breast Cancer Month
This will probably not be the year for galas or events or in-person walks.
Travis Walker with WQYK in Tampa brought up pink station masks that could be sold as a fundraiser.
93.1 The Wolf in Greensboro was the first brand in that market with a wrapped pink car. Come and sign it and make a donation.
In Knoxville, WWST/Star 102.1 has been a sponsor of American Cancer Society's 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' for over 7 years. The local branch has basically lost their brick and mortar building and will be warehousing their wigs for survivors and distribute through a 3rd party.
Radiowave 96.7 in Windhoek Namibia was the first station to sell colored shoelaces to raise money for a local clinic. 40,000 pair at $5 a pair. I’ll allow you to pause and do the math on that.
101.5 K-Hits did them through a client a couple of years ago. Obviously they’d need to be sold on-line in 2020.
