Pawliday’s
Just about now is when you would want to be selling gallery contests for November and September. Live in Hagerstown pushed The Pet Button and got an insane number of entries to win $100 in pet supplies last December.
And doing a fundraiser or collection in December for local animal shelters would probably be a nice hook during that traditional Season Of Begging.
Selling Product/Service vs. Begging For Donations
Mid-November to late-December is traditionally a time when we have our hands out requesting “stuff”. As we should. Talent like Chet Buchanan take it to new heights and do marathon broadcasts and other showbizzy things to get people’s attention when every brand is fighting for it.
Mark S. Allen once hung in a shark cage for 30 days to raise money for MDA. (Not “MDMA”) He also lived on billboards and once swam to Alcatraz.
Having something that you could sell also works. Like B-105 in Cincy selling ugly Christmas sweatshirts.
Scavenger Hunts
I love Scavenger Hunts. You can drive people to client’s locations. You can massage some press out of it. And during a pandemic, it’s a great activity or time-killer for the audience. Up, running and sold in Redding.
Gimme Shelter
Habitat For Humanity is a fantastic charity to partner with, and for the second year, ‘MGK in Philly is working with them and collecting building supplies ------
Beasley Media Group’s Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK-FM & Habitat For Humanity Philadelphia are teaming up to help families in need of affordable housing.
The 2nd Annual Gimme Shelter event will take place on Saturday, September 26th, from 11am – 3pm at the Habitat For Humanity Restore located at 2318 Washington Avenue in Philadelphia. WMGK’s John DeBella, Matt Cord, Andre Gardner, and Tony Harris will be broadcasting live from the donation site.
Listeners are encouraged to drop off new and/or gently used home goods, hardware, and construction materials. All donated items will benefit the non-profit organization’s mission of helping to build and repairs home for individuals and families in need in Philadelphia. All on-site donors will receive a commemorative Gimme Shelter t-shirt (while supplies last).
Accepted items include tools, hardware, electrical, lumber, plumbing, roofing, doors, windows, appliances, furniture, and more. A full list of items can be found on www.wmgk.com.
For the comfort and safety of donors, a contact-free drop-off option will be available onsite. In addition, listeners can make a monetary donation, schedule a pickup with their local Habitat For Humanity ReStore or purchase items from Habitat For Humanity’s Amazon Wish List, which will benefit the organization’s Home Repair Program.
