Boom Zoom
Now, every state is different. Fireworks in California on New Years Eve would be, as my mother would say, “A poor choice.” But in other places there is an expectation that backyard fireworks are going to be about 25% bigger, louder and more prevalent on New Years Eve as people look to PUT THIS STUPID YEAR BEHIND US. With flourish.
So, what if you did Boom Zoom and had people zoom in from their yards at midnight, following your obligatory countdown?
Karaoke
I’ve never quite understood it but I also thought “Small Wonder” was funny. It appears that in a time of COVID, that it’s making a resurgence.
Almost immediately in March the market manager for Hubbard in the Twin Cities put together a list of “virtual” stuff they should explore like game nights and bed time stories. Karaoke, surprisingly, didn’t make it to the list.
One of the Classic Hits stations did Saturday night Karaoke. Music and lyrics? Right there and scrolling on the site. So crank the station and start singing. It would be something that you might want to test the waters with.
In the meantime, here is CPR Director of Computer Stuff, Bel Boschi who never misses a chance to drink and sing.
10 Secret Super Stars
This is a Brian Douglas promotion from 102 Jamz in Greensboro that is still one of my favorite “big prize” contests. It’s kind of Secret Sound With Voices. It ended up on the radar yesterday because a station has his and her vehicles to give away.
The idea is to cobble together one word from each of ten celebrities to create a phrase.
You take callers and they try to guess who all ten people are. They win something for getting even one so pretty much there’s a winner every play starting early on.
You want a few TV stars, an iconic voice like Trump (every era has that voice. When Brian did it, it was Roseanne), a few artists, someone local like a TV anchor, a couple of film stars and then someone “random”. At Jamz it was one of the guys from “What’s Happening?”. At The Beat in Vancouver, it was Jamie Lee Curtis who IS kind of off the radar. Samples from Radiowave 96.7 and KDWB.
Caught While Masking
Now, imagine this young woman if she was wearing one of your masks?
Radio has always done the “Let us know where you listen and you could win!” but only a few stations like Q-105 in Tampa actually went out and spotchecked them to see if they were listening, and THEN rewarded them.
What if you did that with masks?
If you have the opportunity to go out and give your masks to grocery stores and drive throughs and mini marts and where people would be making many many impressions every day, and hook them up with station masks, do it. And for people who already have your masks, have them tip the station as to where/when you can catch them wearing them.
Then go out with a phone and video the payoff of rewarding them for, well, marketing your station.
