Great Moments In Marketing
One of the relatively easy things to do is to use imaging and testimonials from “listeners” to paint the competition as “over.” Once you’re over, it’s hard to come back. Even if it’s just a false impression.
“The Switch” has always been a great tool in facilitating that by creating the impression that people are bailing from the other radio station and coming over to you. And no one wants to be a part of something that no one else wants to be associated with.
And it’s easy: the only way to win is to say, “I’ve made the switch from (competitor) to (you).” Including the competition is just a matter of taste. Its like how some people like Neil Diamond and others don’t. Its not necessary for it to work.
Its pounded and pounded on every platform. Everyone is making the switch.
And The Bull in Seattle is incentivizing it with Nintendo Switches. That’s great. I’ve seen it done with swag. Just get people to pound that phrase.
Free Turkeys
Again, you can over think prizing. A free turkey in ANY quality of economy is a great great prize. The Bull is doing a Gobble Back Weekend. And kudos to whoever was able to rhyme “1000 song weekend” and “getting you fed this Thanksgiving.” Not even TLC could have pulled that off.
The Night Before Thanksgiving
This is traditionally a HUGE club night but since that won’t be happening in 2020, Elizabethany at Hot 99.5 in DC is going to do her own virtual club gig.
Like the virtual proms, you need to add an element or two so that it’s not just a mix show.
And since blood is ALWAYS needed and a lot of people will not be traveling on the busiest travel day of the year. Froggy 92.9 in Santa Rosa is doing a blood drive on the 25th. If people are just going to be laying around, they may as well lay around at a blood drive.
